Interesting vlog. So... Would Sandbox mode grinding become an expectation? Yes. What reason did RIOT give? grinding Sandbox becoming an expectation. Does RIOT want this to be a barrier to entry? Never. Is this the same thing as toxicity? No. So RIOT, in fact, said exactly what they meant. I'm not really surprised that players (particularly players at high competitive levels who are more than willing to do extra grinding) don't like RIOT's decision not to release Sandbox mode.
Although Sandbox mode would almost certainly be useful to me, personally, for improving my game, I have no opinion on the rightness of including Sandbox mode. Given RIOT's clear stance on Sandbox mode, I think players might be better off trying to articulate a Training mode RIOT would be amenable to releasing. For example, RIOT appears committed to using actual games (as the "unequivocal" best way) to improve play. So what about lobbying for a game mode that allows players greater flexibility in the parameters they can set rather than lobbying for a "hyperbolic time chamber".
