Put the League in the Future

Instead of removing the league, why not make it so it's a thing done in the future? Instead of having it so that the champions exist at the same time as the institute make it so the institute is a futuristic place where powerful mages have made constructs based off of legends, and they use those constructs to settle disputes, entertain people, blah blah blah. It's the league of "legends," right? Well, most "legends" are dead. It would also explain why champions who are supposed to be basic, like Garen, can do impossible things, like summon a giant sword of Demacia from the sky.

I know I'm not the only one who enjoyed having a reason why these people/creatures are killing each other, or enjoyed there being a reason why I'm controlling them, or enjoyed being a part of the game because of the story. When I was younger it amused me to imagine myself as living the life of a summoner. I've always held a little bit of that, and now it's been taken.

Edit: It occurred to me today that this would also solve the problem of why someone like Gnar is a champion. Champs like Gnar, Rammus, Orianna, they're just interesting stories- literally legends. What place do they have in the world other than to be interesting? Doing things in my way would give us a reason for why they exist. They exist because they're interesting legends who someone decided would be an interesting champion.

So basically the IoW would be made waaay after all of this stuff has happened, as a sort of way to turn history into entertainment? Or would the IoW be created IN RESPONSE TO these cataclysmic world-changing events as a means to try and contain them?

If we went with your idea, then they would have to make everything past tense. The construct of how things are would be completely different.

Or maybe, the same. In which case, that just means that they would just fast forward to the future and say "Oh, this is happening at this time, but during present, blah blah blah"

They keep IoW, but it's still "removed" Nothing changed other than adding another element that may just seem...awkward? Maybe? Or, at the least, we no longer do lore of the champs and instead go with the League and how they use the magical summons in something different since, you know, the legends are dead. NO story add to that.

While it would be a cheap excuse for the summoners,it would at least be an excuse.

I would be against the idea of it explaining abilities like Garens ultimate,that sounds like Garen was too weak in his lifetime and needed to be artificially buffed for the league(although it could explain why garen can set someone on fire by glaring at them if he is using ignite)

However the question would be how to justify the future league to summon the champions from this specific time? If they can summon legends from the past,then where would be the difference between summoning someone from lets say 100 years ago compared to someone from 200 years ago?Why would they summon Annie in her child form not in her adult form?

I could imagine 2 answers for that: 1.The guys who later create the league of legends do already live at the same time as everyone else,they don't have the power for the league,but they need to use their magic on the champ once to recreate him later and they do it now and not later. 2.A time traveler,who traveled back into time to collect the data needed to recreate those legends(at the same time he/she might try to stop whatever was causing the rune-wars in the first place),there was once a concept of a time traveler named tempus floating around.

There are probably more possibilities,but those 2 came to my mind just now.

Someone else brought this up a while back, and I think the problem with it is that it doesn't really solve the problem people are having with "I want to play as the characters effecting the world". If they're just illusions or constructs, they still aren't really doing things or progressing the world. The summoners are, at least, but that's the only major hangup, I think.

This idea actually seems like a great way to do it. Maybe the destruction of the other teams Nexus provides power to keep the constructs and consciousnesses of the champions around for a while to catch up with the world, or at least live again. Also, if anything happens drastically in the lore, the League isn't affected and there could be some sweet skins made for post-war or revolutionary events.

As far as alternatives to the retcon goes, this is a really fascinating solution. It'd take a little fenaggling to get right but there's potential here and it'd definitely be interesting.
