Skins leaks: yay or nay? (With poll)

EDIT: THIS TOPIC ISN'T ABOUT LEAKS THEMSELVES BUT IT IS ABOUT KNOWING WHAT SKINS WILL COME OUT BEFOREHAND.

So i wanted to discuss about a controversial situation about skins. Not too much time ago there have been some leaks about that predicted xayah and rakan release and also tons of skins. Now, a new leak appeared (if you want to know the leak, go check redmercy's channel). What i want to ask is your thoughts about skin leaks: Do you think that knowing what skins are coming up is good or just a waste of surprise effect? On my side, i have two friends, one is a otp yasuo, the other is an excellent riven main. When at that time they knew from the leak about the new skins for yasuo and riven, you can't even imagine how happy and excited they were. They don't usually shop skins but knowing beforehand that those skins were coming, it helped them a lot and they could save money and now they are both ready to buy those 2 sick badass skins. In my honest opinion, i think that knowing which skins will be coming in the near future is a great thing because it helps people manage to save their money and buy the skins for their most favorite champs.

Spoiler alert if you don't want to know a part of the leak that you can see in one of the most recent redmercy's video: i hope that program elise skin is real, i'm goddamn ready to buy that skin.

Edit: THIS THREAD'S PURPOSE ISN'T FOR JUSTIFYING LEAKS.

leaks are a horrible thing first of all. they destroy any element of surprise. second of all. chances are most of them are fake.

and third of all history shows us this when actual content that is coming out gets leaked on many many games. content gets halted it gets stopped or it gets scrapped. people lose there jobs over it aswell...

like say the leak with angelblade riven. well we know its a thing its coming out under a different name. but omega squad twitch and that whole group may have been scrapped. along with the star guardian stuff...there may be an entire filing cabinet in riot HQ right now. of nothing but scrapped skins due to leaks.. there have been games that have cut entire dlc's because it was leaked. and many people will sit here and try to justify them. i dont see any good thing about this. no surprise and cut content. thanks for leaking us the info. getting our hopes up. just for it not to be true or for it to be scrapped.

I feel that announcements could be made further from release but that they should be as neutral as possible in the title:

so titles like these should be fine:

  • Skins in progress till September;
  • Skin announcements;
  • What will be for skins next month.

While titles like these are wrong.

  • announcing the next skins(list in title with a picture next to it)
  • angelblade yi is here to enter battle.

That way people who don't want to be spoiled can know ahead of time and the rest of the player base can simply ignore them

You're only looking at "positive" effects of leaks. There are several problems with leaks, however:

  1. It means there's a breach in the system. A Rioter is intentionally violating their Non-Disclosure Agreement and opening themselves up for a lawsuit or a firing, just to score a few brownie points with friends. (It happened years ago when a Rioter leaked some proposed item changes in 2012.)
  2. What if the leak was wrong? You said that your Yasuo and Riven friends were excited about the upcoming skins. How would they feel if the leak was intentionally false? I know several people who were disappointed to find out that Arcade Yorick was likely to be fake and you seem to be desperately clinging to the hope of Program Elise.
  3. Is the extra time really necessary? Instead of the skin reaching the PBE two weeks before release, we get a hint six to eight weeks in advance. With last year's changes to release sales (all skins will be on sale 4-6 months after release), you're paying full price the moment the skin comes out. If players need to save their money to get the skin, why not wait until it's on sale a few months down the line?

Frankly, I'd rather be surprised when a skin comes out on the PBE than have it "leaked" two months later only for the company to scrap it because the surprise was ruined.

Said leak has been confirmed to be fake by Rioters BelugaWhale and Reav3. :P

The problemis the wait now. I really hope the second leak is real because i main both rumble and yorick and they both are lacking in skins. I think base yoricks the best right now and im tied between brr and sgr for rumble.

I like it. Allows me to predict how much I might (or might not!) have to spend on league in the next months!

is Taliyah getting pool party?

Gapybo6/5/2017, 12:54:59 PM1 votes

No. It ruins the surprise for people and makes cool teasers Riot does for skins and champions useless. Waste of work, time and money on their part. The argument that people can prepare money for the skin this way is just ridiculous. If you need leaks months ahead so that you can afford the skin then you probably have some bigger problems in life than cosmetic items for a video game. Skins are on PBE for at least 2 weeks and most are available permanently after release anyway. There is absolutely nothing positive about leaks.

Actually the second leak(the one with Program Elise) was confirmed to be fake.

And in general there is the big problem that sometimes something gets scrapped late in production. The sewn chaos skins for example were pretty much finished already,they had functioning ingame models and their own splash arts,yet they were scrapped anyway.

Don't pay attention to leaks. Just look to PBE and Surrender@20.

I'm for really early hints at a skin if the skin is not going to be available for a long time or it costs more than normal. This way, people with less money have time to figure things out ahead of time.

After that, it does ruin the surprise. I was still super hyped at the idea of a angel Riven skin, but the hype for any of the other smaller skins for champions I don't play as much not yet on the PBE is most certainly fading.
