VGUs and New Champs This Year, Based On Lore Updates

In the Narrative in 2018 post, they mentioned that there will be four main areas they'll be focusing on first. These areas were:

  • The Void
  • Ionia
  • Bilgewater
  • The Darkin Well, we've already received a lore update for the Void (albeit not all of it). The rest might come with a Cho'Gath rework or something, but that checks off the Void until further notice. It's extremely likely that the Ionia update is going to come with either the Irelia VGU or the Akali VGU; possibly separate updates coming with both.

Now, in Bilgewater, there's no obvious VGU candidate. They're all in a pretty good spot; nowhere near VGU Tier 1. So, I think we might get a new champ from Bilgewater this year! Their last champion/VGU was Illaoi, which means that aside from Bandle City, they're the region that's gone the longest without a new champion or VGU (they're the third longest in waiting for a new champion, behind Demacia). While this could just be a normal lore update for Nautilus (and possibly Fizz), I feel like we're gonna get another champion with it.

And as for the Darkin, there are only three relevant champions: Aatrox, Varus, and Kayn. Kayn just recently got released, and Varus already got a lore update. While it's possible that Aatrox gets a lore change with his GU, it could also be possible that another Darkin is being released. Specifically, the fourth female Darkin (the one that Varus calls "sister" at the end of his short story). I don't think Riot would keep us on a cliffhanger for more than a year, especially now that they're doing lore updates more often. So hopefully we're getting a new Darkin champ!

Quick note: We're getting four new champions and six VGUs this year. Currently we have (not necessarily in the correct order): Champ 1: Kai'Sa VGU 1: Irelia VGU 2: Akali Champ 2: ??? (Bilgewater champion?) VGU 3: (unsure, but probably Nunu) Champ 3: ??? (Darkin #4?) VGU 4: ??? (Mordekaiser, Morgana, Pantheon, and Kayle are likely at some point this year) VGU 5: ??? Champ 4: ??? VGU 6: ???

I answer you with my predictions:

VGU 1: Swain Champ 1: Kai'Sa VGU 1: Irelia Champ 2: New Bilgewater Champion possibly with new MF VO because she will have a legendary skin soon based on the new skin teaser. GU: Aatrox VGU 3: Akali Champ 3: (Still Unknown) can be swap with VGU 4 though because it subject to change VGU 4: Nunu (based on the teaser pic on the road map. it clearly says next VGU after akali and what champ only throws a snowball? can be swap with champ 3 VGU 5: Kayle - double update with morg VGU 6: Morgana - double update with kayle Note: to support this, awhile back, file checkers saw upcoming skins or other aesthetic stuffs with the WAD files and guess what they also predicted upcoming VGU's like akali, nunu and possibly kayle and morg because they are high in the VGU list champ 4: i dont know if this will still be in 2018 though.

other than that:

in the Narrative in 2018 post, they mentioned that there will be four main areas they'll be focusing on first. These areas were:

  • The Void
  • Ionia
  • Bilgewater
  • The Darkin

this clearly means that this is just the fist half of the year while the other second half might be explained in another post this year.

Ex file digger here, Killaburn is correct.

Here's roughly when the stuff hits, if everything goes in proper order. Sorry if I suck at time frames.

We just got the Void update with Kai'Sa.

Ionia will probably be a larger update, and span the gap between Irelia and Akali. Guessing this will start when Irelia gets announced, hopefully either later this month or in early April. The Piltover-Zaun lore update - the gap between Camille and Warwick, roughly - spanned about a month and a half, during which we got lore updates for multiple groups of champions from both halves of the city. I expect the Ionia update to be no different, gradually traversing the island nation from its upper echelons in Irelia and Karma, to the Kinkou Order of Akali, Kennen, and Shen, as well as perhaps Zed and the Order of Shadows. Akali's VGU should hit sometime in May, sometime around midseason, ending the lore update period.

Also sometime in May, possibly at midseason itself, we will get the Aatrox gameplay and VO update. This will come with darkin lore.

Since we don't have a lot of new champs this year, I don't expect a champ between Irelia and Akali. Instead, our second champ of the year should come in early summer, after Akali, and will be from Bilgewater. It took four months to release Lux's new base VO after Elementalist Lux's release, so I wouldn't be surprised if Riot drops the MF legendary (ultimate?!) skin next patch and then waits until the Bilgewater lore update to give MF her new and improved voice.

Sometime after this new champ, probably in August or so, we get Nunu. Nothing to say here but we may get a bit of a touch-up on the Freljord.

Champ #3 can be expected sometime this fall. Provenance unclear. We might get another lore update for their region, depending on what it is.

Kayle and Morgana should round out the year. They're not yet announced, but they have been hinted at inside and outside the files, and I'm excited to see them this November-December.

Maybe Kayle and Morgana will be early next year with a new Targon lore ¿
