Yorick has such a cool lore
too bad the champion is completely toxic to play against and isn't good past laning phase...
the lore is cool, but he needs the rework.

Lore wise, I believe the best way to simplify Yorick is "blue collar." He's the guy who cleans up the messes left behind by the rest of the Shadow Isles champs and, possibly, relates to mortals the best out of all of them.
Kit-wise, what holds Yorick back is his ultimate. It's an ultimate that was created at the last minute days before he was to be released. It's a last minute creation, with little to no testing done on it, that continues to plague Riot worse than the great Stealth rework did, from crashed games when Yorick was released to his ult breaking the recent "Ascension" game mode last year.
Xelnath, with the help of the community, created a new kit rework that was finished 14 months ago., but Sona, Soraka, and all of the other reworks released in 2014 were a higher priority, apparently. Hell, Yorick is, likely, behind Urgot and Mordekaiser in terms of rework priority that is "Sion-level" or higher.
The main problem is that, unlike Malzahar and any other "pet" using champion, Yorick's ghouls would likely difficult to program for since they should act as extensions of the Grave Digger instead of slightly faster minions. If this is what's delayed Yorick's rework, I'd like them to at least admit it without the whole "We know he's a problem and we appreciate your passion, but he's just not in our scopes right now" nonsense.
