For the Viktor Lore Update
This is copied directly from the original post on tumblr. I just thought I'd post it here to give it more visibility. A cross-website bump!
I know that Riot has painted a nice picture of what the fans should except of Viktor and when I say expect I mean they obviously wanted us to see Viktor as a maniacal mad scientist laughing as he obliterates everyone that stands in his way, followed by hooded nameless acolytes that do his bidding only so that the shinning example of heroism that is Jayce could shine brightly and bring down his hammer upon the wicked. And there is no denying that this is “meta” or an “interpretation” when their current lore literally paints this picture and want this message to be loud and clear. But I think the writing community can do so much better, so before he is reworked let me lay out what I hope to see:
-
Give me a young student Viktor who designed Blitzcrank because he wanted to help humanity, how he designed Blitzcrank so that people wouldn’t have to put their lives at risk when science held the power to create beings that could do the difficult work so humans won’t have to. Talk to me how Viktor and his team of scientists valued human life and humanity so much that they decided to attempt something no one else had before them.
-
Give me young Viktor and his team caring about the environment as well as the people since Blitzcrank was supposed to help dispose of the radioactive and toxic wastes that were destroying their home.
-
Or a younger Viktor in the process of making Blitzcrank only to discover that not only did they succeed at making sentience but they didn’t make something - they made someone. Viktor seeing how Blitzcrank develops personality and talking to him as one would to a human, teaching him various things and seeing him become curious about his surroundings.
-
Give me a Viktor who suffered not only because he lost his lifes work but because he was betrayed by his professor, someone he trusted and he also lost Blitzcrank who was at that point more than just his creation. How much he felt as if he lost everything and that wherever he turned he would see Stanwick hailed as a great mind and he was spat on by everyone as a student that tried to steal from his professor.
-
How he isolated himself not because he was a “mad scientist” but because he was so hurt and betrayed by humanity he chose to abandon it even though everything he had done before was to help his fellow Zaunites who turned their backs on him.
-
Show me how Viktor in the deepest of his depression and isolation without anyone else managed to pick himself up and in his anger do something he wouldn’t otherwise do - experiment on himself despite knowing the risks.
-
Or how Viktor managed to create fully functional augments from scrap, from the little resources he could have in his isolation and without any assistance. How not only are they extremely well crafted and functional, but how he managed to install them on himself all alone and somehow survive the process and emerge with something that no one in either Piltover or Zaun has done.
-
Give me Viktor who honestly thinking the Glorious Evolution can help humanity and can save it from itself, and he would rather educate his followers and acolytes instead of coerce them to join. Viktor who would be happy to be able to once again work with fellow like-minded scientists with similar interests on something for the greater good.
-
I don’t want any dark or grim implications about Viktor forcing others to augment and strapping them to tables, give me Viktor saving lives of poor people and ones that were turned away by everyone so they came knocking to his door and he couldn’t bring himself to turn them down.
-
Give me the Viktor that first approached Jayce, tried to explain to him why he believes in the Glorious Evolution, trying to reason and befriend Jayce as a fellow scientist and intellectual, only to be turned down and accused of villany. Give me the Viktor who did not hurt Jayce and only took what he came for even though he could have clearly kill Jayce and save himself the trouble and yet by comparison is still the villain opposing to Jayce who stormed his laboratory and hurt his acolytes.
-
Give me Viktor who did not go after Stanwick, even though he is the sole reason for ruining Viktor’s life and bringing him to that point. Give me Viktor who chose self improvement over revenge.
Riot don’t give me another “misunderstood” villain who will be defeated by the hero and woobified by the fandom. Don’t give me another Marvel comic book villain to sell more dark themed skins. Give me a morally complex character deep in the grey zone whose main purpose is not to be the antagonist to Jayce but an antagonist and a hero to himself. Give me the Viktor you began writing in your story, the one you accidentally made someone with a good heart and noble intentions that has a dream to change a world that might as well not accept the change. Give me a Viktor whose struggles will be within him and who will at the end of his story see the flaws in himself and his Glorious Evolution however would still believe he can save humanity. Give me the Viktor that has a good heart that was forced into the metal shell by the humanity that betrayed his kindness. And honestly he has such a good set up, that it won’t require too much work to make his lore say this more clearly than so far. He is already complex for those that notice the details. Besides, who said anti-heroes and anti-villains can’t wear cool armor and have fancy long capes?
is a rival to
?
I want to know more about that than

is friends with both of them (and
somehow).
