What's the actual excuse of TD Yasuo?

Until the MV came out, I gave Riot the benefit of the doubt that, like K/DA, most likely the champions were chosen by the artists they were voiced by in the MV. But as it turns out, Yasuo got no lines, and wasn't even tied to a producer's name, nothing. Just here to be pretty. Now while I can still assume that Qiyana and Akali were chosen by their voices, which is fine, what is Yasuo's excuse for a second skin this year aside "I'm here to get all the Yasuo fanboys' money"? Shen for example would've been a much more welcome choice honestly. I don't think I even prefer him over Yasuo, I think it'd have been really exciting to see one of the "forgotten" champions get such a spotlight, even if to only look pretty.

Just watched video, very weird he had no actual parts...hell he wasn't in the video all that much. I'm indifferent with him, but I feel that was a lost moment to make him interesting.

Even in Odyssey he had more personality even though he didn't talk in that either.

Yasuo was the DJ. He is some World Class music producer who made the beats for the song. Not a singer.

On that note, he didn't need to be in the group. I honestly would have preferred Bard. Straight reference to Daft Punk or DeadMau5.

Also this is kinda a similar situation to Kaisa last year, people bitching she didn't sing or really have a part. Where as if you actually read the K/DA profiles you learned she was a high level dancer and was the choreographer for their dances.

I love the design for Yasuo, and I don't even play him. It's a gorgeous skin, and I like the character they're giving him through True Damage-related posts in League's instagram. But I have to concur that him having a more active role would have been a little more engaging. Him having no lines at all and minimal appearances during the MV make him seem like an afterthought. Like they storyboarded the MV and then went, "oh, shit, Yasuo is meant to be in here!"

And I agree with others that IF having a "stoic silent DJ" (to quote mod Academy Kayn) was necessary to balance out Ekko and the other high-energy champs, a different champ would have been more appropriate. Yasuo's last skin was Battle Boss, and that's practically still new. I would have better appreciated Shen, Zed, Sylas, Xin Zhao, Talon, fuck even JHIN could have worked in that role.

As much as I love the art, the concept, the music, etc., True Damage felt like a money grab to begin with, evidenced by both Yasuo and Akali getting a new skin within months of their last ones, meanwhile a good lot of champs are pressing three years since their latest skin. I would be less pressed about this if they gave him, idk, a personality? Lines? Anything? His character is pretty minimal and most of it is coming through Instagram right now. It all really just seems like a money grab from Yas players.

They should have given it to Bard. I know he's niche but everyone is basically still using Snow Day after years of him being out. Now Snow Day is incredible, but I actually think this would've been the perfect skin for him. Unspeaking, they could've changed his "voiceover" to be more like the drops in the song, and all of his spells using bass drop noises could've been amazing. Plus, giving a niche champion a skin in the biggest line of the year has been known to significantly boost the popularity of a champion.

He is supposed to have audio since they listed two male rappers, but like you never hear him. Way less existence than Kai'sa's background K/DA vocals.

I agree its likely a grab for money but I dont think shen should have gotten it, he already got one in the past few months as well, if we are talking about fitting the theme they should have given it to lucian so him and senna could have a couples skin

I don't think there's any real reason to believe the artists chose the champions. Even in K/DA in this interview it seemed at least Soyeon and Miyeon were pretty ignorant to LoL. The concepts overall seem too thought out to simply hand a roster of 140+ champions over to artists who aren't familiar with LoL and ask them to pick a champ cuz reasons. From a creative standpoint it makes more sense that champions were chosen by the skins team and then artists were selected to voice them, both in K/DA and TD.

Ekko Senna Qiyana Vayne Kayn would have been a much better lineup.

There you've got a champ for each role, you could have two male ( Ekko Kayn ) vocalists and two female ( Senna Qiyana ) vocalists that are all young-ish and attractive, the perfect model for this type of thing. For a DJ/producer? What about Vayne ? You've even got social justice points there because you've got a woman in a role that you'd usually associate with men, like Tiesto etc.

Akali's already got a skin line, I feel like including her in this is just borderline offensive pandering to the Korean audience where Riot's just like "buy her because she's Korean and you're Korean". And don't even get me started on Yasuo. I initially thought he was in there because it was supposed to be a Steve Aoki reference or something, but it isn't. He's just pointless in this skin line.

Maybe the DJ picked him? It doesnt have to be a popular DJ like David Guetta. Probably a DJ on Riot picked him. DJ's arent there for vocals lol.

I know many people say that the artist picked the champs but is it just me or would anyone else here (like me) have picked the oddest ones just for the sake of it? Unless that's just my way.

Riot: "Hey, thanks for doing this, what champ would you like as your character in the band?" Me: "Heimerdinger. He's like a technical wiz, perfect for the DJ role." Riot: "Er.. doesn't fit really, how about Yasuo?" Me: "Nah, Heimerdinger pls."

Imo i would have picked zed over yasuo. Zed us super popular in solo que too or mabye talon. Hell even kayn. Or if they get no voice lines the obvious choice would be sona. Imo TD kayn would have been best and sign post malone or something. Ekko already had some hardcore spiderverse vibes to it i think that would have knocked it out of the park so to speak. But thats just a personal opinion.

In the music industry, not all artists are chosen for their talent. Some are chosen purely for their marketability.

This is no different really. Yasuo is there because he's easy to sell.
