Change any other champion's splash, no one really cares. Change an icon League champion's splash (Katarina), the whole Boards blows up

The whole board blew up over Tristana's previous piece of artwork, and it has currently been removed and reworked into something better. How much better remains to be said, but at least they listened. Or, what I fear may be the case, they saw the backlash and felt this probably justified some of the their team's own misgivings about the older cartoony Tristana splash and they had the artist rework it. Let's hope it's the board's collective will, and not validation of their own uncertainty, that caused them to act.

Shes iconic because she is in every riot video trailer and she has been hugly popular in league threw out all of the seasons. Also she has been plastered on every league of legends home page art works

Being frequently played or high-tiered isn't the same as being iconic.

Mario, Samus, Link and Zelda were generally considered to be trash tier in SSB Brawl, but that didn't keep them from hogging the vast majority of the box art.

Yeah, I cannot really comment on 4 because the meta for it is still being developed.

My point is more that the most high-tiered or frequently played character is rarely the most iconic and marketable. Brawl's most iconic and marketable characters are Mario, Samus, Link and Zelda, but they all occupy the F tier; a quick spot of research will tell you that the only character considered to be worse than Zelda is Ganondorf.

For that matter, Ganondorf is an icon in his own right due to people playing him because he's rock bottom on the list and wanting to prove that the tier system is trash in itself. One player even won an official tournament with him.

Same thing here, Riot's marketing darling have always been Ahri and Katarina because tits. Hell, Katarina is the current forum background.

Nah its not about katarina being iconic,its about katarina being a sexy chick. The boards also blew up when the Janna and the ahri splashes were changed and when they nerfed akalis sideboob.
