Why Super Galaxy and not Neon Strike?

patmax17·5/3/2016, 10:01:24 PM·80 votes·13,432 views

As in title, the new skins (especially Shyvana and Kindred) have tight, bright-colored suits that remind me more of the Neon Strike theme (i.e. Vi) than Super Galaxy

EDIT: First, thanks to all of you for the feedback Second, KateyKhaos commented on a few other topics that they probably won't change the name, but they will consider it:

http://boards.pbe.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/general-pbe-feedback/9lPa4y5z-pbe-bugs-feedback-thread-super-galaxy-kindred?comment=00070000

Ultimately, we felt this was a more appropriate name. We could certainly bring up the discussion again if you/other feel Neon Strike would be a better name.

It's not likely that we'll change the name, but I can bring it up at the next team meeting. :)

Judging from the amount of people who pointed at Neon Strike as a better-fitting name, I'm optimistic :)

Edit2: I'm mostly talking about Kindred Shyvana, but since Fizz will be released with them I wrote for all three (I was thinking would be weird to make two similar themes in one patch, but that just happened with Mecha Sion and the two Program skins so, brainfart I guess). I actually have no problems with Fizz as a Super Galaxy skin (and most other comments here seem to agree)

I agree with this. I have no issue with the name change and both fit the Neon Strike theme more than Super Galaxy.

Though I think the reason was the Super Galaxy has mechs whjich Dragon Shyvana and Wolf seem to be

This is exactly what I thought when I first saw these skins. Fizz's can pass as Super Galaxy, but Kindred's and Shyv's are much more akin to Neon Strike, maybe even Star Guardian in Shyv's case.

They aren't bad skins, but they don't seem to have the same feel to them as Rumble's.

Neon Strike would be much better for Kindred.

Super Galaxy works for Fizz.

As long as neon strike is eventually continued with a five man multicolored perfectly coordinating team recall pose, I'm willing to overlook what could have been here.

Hey patmax17!

Just wanted to update and expand on this explanation a bit.

We did have this discussion internally regarding the naming conventions of Neon Strike v. Super Galaxy. We also brought this discussion up again once we heard player feedback around the subject.

And now, the verdict - we won't be adjusting the names.

Here's why - We don't deny that these lines are similar, because they are! If we compared them and where they may live in the League of Legends universe, they would certainly be living in the same galaxy/space.

Originally, as many players mentioned TTGL was an inspiration for Vi initially. We wanted to expand on the line, and in doing so, we expanded the inspirations that we used to create the new skins - we grabbed new inspiration specifically from mechy/shonan anime.

two similar themes in one patch, but that just happened with Mecha Sion and the two Program skins so, brainfart I guess).

Side note on this. This was actually intentional. We usually try to give legendary skins a unique name - Mecha Zero Sion v. Mecha Kha'Zix. Like Neon Strike and Super Galaxy, Mecha and Program would also likely exist together. Program is in a similar vein, but the shape language and particle language is much different from Mecha, which is why we differentiated them a bit. In regards to the theme as a whole, we're still talkin' robots! :D

Honestly, looking at them they do SCREAM Neon Strike.

Super Galaxy was more of a Gurren Lagann/Anime robo theme. Shyv and Kindred are just large blobs of Neon color.

Super Galaxy Shyvana has joined DJ Sona, Frostblade Irelia, Neon Strike Vi and Safecracker Evelynn in their special club, if you know what I mean.

THANK YOU!, they look like neon strike.

As long as I get more power ranger skins i am satisfied.

they just don't fit the super galaxy theme at all

My take on it.

The Kindred and Shyvana skins to me look, to an extend, inspired by the Goku Uniforms of Kill la Kill. I mostly atribute this to the stars present in both skins, on Lamb's chest for Kindred and on the back of Shyvana's hands and a smaller at her chest. These stars look quite a bit like the stars on the Goku Uniforms in Kill la Kill, though the overall astetic is more spacey-ish.

This ties into the Super Galaxy line, specifically Super Galaxy Rumble in that while that skin was certainly a lover letter to the super robot genre in general, quite a few direct references are made to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Many of the people who worked on Gurren Lagann also worked on Kill la Kill.

So in that sense they are connected to me. But that might just be me reaching.

Awesome skins though.

I saw Super Galaxy Shyvana and thought it looked like Diva from Overwatch. For those that aren't familiar with Diva, a quick description:

Super Mega Jpop Weeb-rights Battle warrior in pink

I think the difference is in the robotic nature of the super galaxy skins.

Kindred has mechanical legs and a robo-wolf and shyvana is supposed to be a mecha pilot, with her dragon form representing her mecha

Riot seems to have this weird thing where they make one or two skins in the context of a particular aesthetic line, leave it for a year or two, then make a ton of follow up skins and.. Yeah. Like this is a perfect example. I don't think anyone expected any Super Galaxy "side skins", but, would you look at that? Super Galaxy "side skins".

Stardew Valley5/4/2016, 1:24:28 PM1 votes

The Shyvana human form recall also looks A LOT like Neon Strike Vi's recall.

Sylverblitz5/5/2016, 4:41:32 AM1 votes

I'm really not a fan of the Kindred or Shyvana skins. Kindred, specifically Lamb, looks like a muscular bodybuilder with a massive amount of fake tan with that orange colour. Shyvana looks like a clown in bright spandex and the skin doesn't follow her character as half-dragon lady. The colours contrast way too much for my liking.

LordBrasca5/10/2016, 6:30:42 PM1 votes

super galaxy and neon should be 2 different lines of skins.

Super galaxy --> champions with mechas, rumble and fizz skins fit perfectly into the theme.

Neon --> Galaxy heroes (?) with multicolor fluo suits and special weapons i guess?

They are not the same thing, it's like saying that battlecast and mecha is the same line, which is not.

Daemonette10/7/2016, 7:19:22 PM1 votes

I think it is to bright for Kindred and Shyvana. The would be better as a Dark Star skin.
