I am genuine about this. I rather cling to this little piece. It's pretty, it's cute and it's older than Poros. Bad enough that I can't see the snowman anymore in the current system, now I'll lose the entire rune in the next one. If it was just this single rune I would ask if it could be simply turned into an icon, but there are a few too many others of these and it definitely doesn't fit into the modern icons. Anyone has an idea?

Considering the special runes were even less visible than icons, that would probably be acceptable. Then again, I don't have any of them. So my opinion is moot.

Side note: there is a team at Riot working on making icons more interesting as collectibles. I can't say more than that now, but it could be that icons feel more valuable in the near-ish future.

Well, it's not really a meme. It was cool when Riot first started doing so but...

New missions? REWARD ICONS! New quest? Icons! Server downtime? Some icons will fix that right up!

Not to mention summoner icons are probably the least-intensive thing to do. I personally enjoy icons but if your dinner is nothing but mashed potatos, you're probably going to throw up at some point if you catch my analogy.

I really like the current icon I use.... which means other or new icons don't really interest me at all... why would they when I am happy with the icon I have?

Not to mention that icons aren't all that interesting to begin with at least not to me Icons aren't all that visible in game though they are kind of visible here on boards which is something I suppose

Icons are cool. But the point is that they rather play a small part in how can you customize your own profile. It's a tiny space on the top right corner of your client, then it's a bigger framed circle on your profile page, tiny loading screen squares below your champion and a small framed circle when you queue up.

Where do i get to show the plethora of icons i've got? Basically nowhere. If i premade, people can see my icon, if people look at my profile, they can see my icon and no one really cares about the loading screen. So far, icons are one asset that are not quite used to show off you have them. It's more of a personal collection than anything and how can i be proud of my personal collection when people don't even know i have it?

First off: There is a difference between "hate" and "being fed up with". I'm in the latter group.

But aye, I too think icons is the way to go for those runes (I don't have any of the limited ones myself), but it's just the irony of it all. There was a time, not long ago, where icons would be appreciated and even hailed as "yey, I got a special icon!". But these days, it's so obvious the "reward" will be an icon, it makes the entire question of what a reward will be rather redundant. And that is what makes the meme.

Icons turned into the reward of choice entirely too fast, and without anything in its place or as an alternative, the entire concept is something that gets old rather quickly.

As for the side-note...yes, you can say more. You are probably familiar with the saying "once you've said A, you gotta say B". Saying that you can't say anything isn't really helpful, and we've had plenty of "promises of great things" and other big words being used in the past, but once the hype dies down, what is actually being released is nothing but a shadow of the promises.

It's rather frustrating having it happen time and time again.

I think we should have some sort of "sticker album" for the icons. The current interface is a big letdown. I have so many icons I forgot entirely why some of them were awarded to me in the first place, we need a place where we can check the name and meaning of our icons.

Yes!

They have themselves made icons into collectibles, but without even being able to see their names, much less why, when or how we got them, it all feels rather pointless. A notion that is increased by the fact that we get icons for "everything" right now.

It's not a meme to dislike icons. You hand them out for almost everything. You've had 7 mission events in a row where you shove them at us. We can only use 1 at a time and we have dozens upon dozens. People are more than fed up with another crappy icon.

Allow us to disenchant the ones we don't want and use more than one at once on our profile page (like badges).

You guys should really look into an "achievements" tab or something similar. I would like something akin to Badges rather than Icons. Something commemorative to show I participated in an event or completed a mission. For some reason (please find out why) Riot seems to be anti "flex" AKA allowing players to show off their achievements to others. Riot has removed the top 10 Mastery champs, hidden the mastery points behind a hover when it used to be displayed and made Honor level unviewable (leaving an ugly mark on profiles btw). I really think that people want to be able to show off but League has been actively against that. With an achievements tab (that other can explore) I think that Riot would be moving toward a really lucrative social competition to "bling out their tab".

The HUGE problem with Icons is that icons are classically used as a tool of self expression. "I wear this icon because I like the way it looks and it says something about me". When more and more icons are released, people want to show off what they've won but don't want to compromise that self expression with their self chosen default icon. I think a kind of sharable badge page with all your icons displayed (with hover text that shows how you got them if gotten a special way) would be a great addition. I fear that the teased "Skins Tab" will be self viewable only which is just gross IMO. Let people share their love of this game lol!

The "Perfect Ascension" icon is apparently one of the rarest in the game.

I don't remember when or where, but they released some stats on that icon some time after the first Ascension event had ended. I think it was about 12% (globally) who managed to achieve it.

Aye, it's a huge number on its own, but when compared to the Millions of players there is in total, the ratio is rather small.

Personally, I can't fathom how only 12% managed to get it, because it feels like a much higher percentage have it, judging by my friendslist...

well, that's the point. Bigger the number, these 12% carry higher amount of players. ~240k icons in circulation can't be rare in my book. i just found this icon on my smurf account, so it's quite common to say at least. In my opinion a couple of season 2 icons are extremely rare. Riot used to give special icons for solo, 5v5 and 3v3 map. I don't think I've ever seen 3v3 and 5v5 s2 diamond icons.

Tell them, that if players were able to hover the icons in loading screen and it'll show the following:

The requirements to get the icon
When it was obtained
What % of the server has this icon

It will go a long way for me to appreciate icons.

Perfect Ascension is one of my more prized icons. Only cos the website once said that only 33% of the community owns this and it made me feel like I owned something nice, and the details of getting it is my way of showing off.

Wait, Icons aren't considered "Valuable"? While they do offer nothing in-game wise, some of the ones I have (my 2016 NRG one, my 2017 Origen one, my TDK one) are legitimately considered "collector's items" now that all of those teams are realistically never going to play in the LCS again and thus never have another icon made for them.

I'm guessing you are going to tie them to in game emotes that you've been testing out over the last year.

have you tried ANIMATED Icons? I think if you made animated Icons people would be a bit less eye-rolly about them.

Alternatively you could offer other cheap customization rewards.

-Profile backgrounds.

-selectable and customizable loading Borders (make an option where people can swap between borders opting into default rank based ones or the specialized ones only available from events or purchasable from the store).

-in game emote options

the key words here is Variation and Customization .

I understand people who collect icons. Everyone has his or her fetish, but why you force everyone to buy them in mission bundles? I don't mind spending rp to access certain missions, so please remove stuff that I don't need. I feel terrible when I purchase icons and ward skins for RP because %99 of the time i use only 1! It already feels disappointing getting them from hextech chests.
