Viktor's Image

I would like to point out that any mention of Viktor (or, as he is known to all other players, Victor >.>) refers to him as this mad scientist hell-bent on destroying everything in sight because. That's about it in terms of how deep his character seems to be to anybody who hasn't read his Bio.

In short, Viktor is a Victim, one that went from something similar to Jayce's "Let's make tomorrow a better place" to "Let's make tomorrow a convoluted version of a better place populated by machines" after his hard-earned science victory of creating autonomous golems was usurped by the Professor.

Except he isn't even an aggressor. It's never once mentioned that he forcefully imposes his ideas on anyone, in Jayce's lore, in fact, his followers are acknowledged as acolytes instead of victims or slaves. Heavily implied in his lore, he also debates with and allows the Zaunite government to examine his own body in order to affirm its validity as a scientific achievement. That doesn't sound much like a mad scientist at all, outside of the fact that he decided that the only way to deal with his depression was to remove it completely (and even then, that doesn't sound like something terrible considering that he hails from Zaun and is human).

The Battlecast line, with him at the helm, is most likely responsible for the perception of Viktor as an insane mind ready to destroy the world. Viktor is "merely" looking to improve the world, mechanical ascendance style.

Viktor's Lore:

Blitzcrank I am alive.

Viktor Professor Stanwick Piddlily never told you what happened to your father.

Blitzcrank He told me enough! He told me he made me!

Viktor No, I am your father.

Blitzcrank Nooooooooooooo! That's impossible!

Viktor Search your circuit boards. You know it to be true.

As a Viktor main who greatly enjoys his lore its easier to put it simply like this.

Viktor thinks he is doing the right thing, when in reality all he's doing is trying to correct what he thinks is a weakness. You think he'd be what he is now if it wasn't for pure emotion? Depression, rage, neglect, all these are what he views as weaknesses, something to exploit in people. By turning everyone into machines and removing that problem, he is removing a cancer that has afflicted him for the longest time. And he feared that it would hurt other people too. You can pull through it, or you can destroy it completely. Guess what Viktor decided to do.

Jayce's lore really ripped Viktor a new one upon his release. It utterly contradicted who Viktor was: his values, his potential, his power. In one fell swoop, Jayce smashed it all apart. It seemed wrong.

And I don't mean that in a 'oh why you guys do this?!' way. When I say it seemed wrong, I imply that it seems phony. That is, false. Fake. Fraudulent.

Jayce is lying about what happened between he and Viktor.

Here is some random nobody. A scientist concerned more with fame than his own work. His lab is totalled, and then he creates one weapon capable of destroying all of Viktor's defenses, taking the herald down, and escaping to safety.

Let me put that into perspective:

Viktor has technological capabilities greater than anything witnessed in Runeterra. He has a devout following of cyber-acolytes, unmatched sophistication in his lab (and, by extension, we could rightly assume his defenses), and Jayce swats it all aside.

By himself.

At close range.

The crystal that Vik and Jayce were so focused on studying is destroyed. Unfortunate. But Jayce wins! And what's the first thing he does after winning?

He tells the media.

Does Viktor respond, or rebuke? Does Zaun take action against the invading citizen from Piltover? Does the Piltover government launch a follow-up investigation to make sure their crystal is really gone for good?

Nope.

Either through bad lorewriting, or deliberate exaggeration, Jayce is lying. And Viktor? He doesn't care in the slightest - so who better a scapegoat to blame a crystal loss and a one-man-standing-tall-against-corruption victory over?

I've always held the opinion that, secretly, Jayce is the villain. But his motivation isn't villainous, so much as narcissistic. He just wants fame.

Viktor Jayce, with that crystal we can work together to bring a brighter future for humanity.

Jayce What? No, I'm never going to work with a weirdo like you!

Viktor I have gloriously evolved beyond emotions. I'm going to ignore that if you-

Jayce GTFO!

Viktor blasts Jayce away

Viktor Inferior construct...

Jayce Caitlyn, I need your help to stop the evil Viktor from destroying Piltover!

Caitlyn What are you talking about? He's a renowned scientist who has helped Piltover with some of his creations. Besides, it's not like we can just attack Zaun without-

Jayce Whatever, I'll just go by myself.

Caitlyn Wait! You can't simply... and he's gone.

Jayce Viktor, I came to stop you!

Viktor Behold, with this power we could help hundreds, no, thousands!

Jayce I'm here to chew bubblegum and smash stuff.

Viktor ... What?

Jayce And I'm all out of bubblegum.

Viktor No! Stop that, you stupid fleshling!

Jayce Power Slam!

Viktor Arg! Move away, that generator produces a third of all electricity on Zaun.

Jayce To the skies!

Viktor No! Why are you doing this?!

Jayce And that, kids, is the story of how I singlehandedly saved Piltover.

There is a fine line between "Mad scientist" and "disgruntled scientist" Viktor is not mad or insane, he is just driven. His ultimate goal is to prove his supremacy as an inventor, and in his mind the most audacious and marvelous achievement he could reach would be to make himself a cyborg. He is not some emo scientist who hangs around in the back room because he feels victimized, he is a normal man driven to extremes by his anger in combination with his inventive brilliance.

When I think of Viktor's character I like to first think of what Blitzcrank is and what he was built to do, the purpose for which he was built was to clean up toxic waste, in fact when reading the lore I see no evidence to even show that Viktor knew about Blitzcrank's sentience before Piddlywick stole the credit and Vik locked himself away.

The point I wanted to make in the above is that Viktor was a civil engineer kind of character his greatest achievement was creating something to assist Zaun towards a better future.

I would also like to make a short point that Singed considers Viktor an ally but Viktor has no relation towards Singed, reflecting that in all likely-hood Vik still doesn't approve of the toxic

dumping grounds Zaun currently is.

Well Viktor did blast jayce away when jayce refused to cooperate with him,so i wouldn't say that Viktor is all that harmless either.

Viktor seems like a more neutral-aligned Dr Doom; Doom thinks that the world would be better off with him in charge of it, and Viktor thinks everything would be better off 'improved'. Definitely agree that VIktor isn't a 'mad scientist' or explicitly evil; he's just got goals that other people may disagree with.

(Also, screw Jayce; such a butthole)

Well most champs in the league aren't evil but you wouldn't want to cross their bad side.

Viktor is a cool dood.

I really do enjoy his character, though, and the lore is interesting. I will always support his cause.

Viktor Join in the glorious evolution!
