"As We Fall" and Splash differences

Hey Rito,

The new Varus splash looks pretty cool and it's nice to see Darkin do vary in some features, but I noticed something odd.

In the "As We Fall" video. Varus seems have the a necklace, but didn't have this in the video or retribution comic. Is this just something he likes and found or is it important?

Secondly, I noticed he is casually stepping out of the well and seems to have full control/awareness of his body, unlike what is suggested in the comics and video. Does Varus return here periodically as home base, so to speak, or is this just the natural subtle differences between mediums?

Thanks and keep up the good work

From my perspective it's likely the splash art illustrator wasn't working in tangent with the department responsible for the Varus reboot.

Chances are whomever designed the new art was just emailed a basic guidline and current model refference to work with. In the case of the necklace coming back, could have been miscommunication or something. Otherwise Im thinking it's all just a difference between the types of mediums.

Overall I think the splash is more concerned about representing the ingame model instead of matching with the lore.

It feels as if it was intended for the old varus lore. What I see here is a man preparing for vengeance. I see old Varus' plan in motion. I see the man who doomed himself to kill those who killed his family. Makes me want the old lore back even more.

The pendent was a memento to his dead wife and son...who no longer exist in the new lore. But they can't get rid of it in his model without changing it completely so they are stuck with it until it gets retconned too. As for the stepping out of the Pit how knows? None of this makes sense anymore.
