Shen's spirit blade?
Is it just me or does Shen's spirit blade (and his new single sword) kinda make him look less of a ninja? Now he kinda looks like a mage swordsman. How is the "spirit blade" related to him? Can someone explain?

The blade itself is reminiscent to Chinese blades. The way he holds the actual blade also emphasises this.
Also, he'll probably get a new lore to push along the details, so sit tight.
The sword appears to be a manifestation of his Ki, a concept that was named and left largely unexplored for the longest time. Shen's actually one of only two champions to reference Ki, Riven being the other.
Basically, or at least as basically as I'm understanding it, is that he manifests the sword out of his Ki as a representation of his inner spiritual power. He can then call upon this power in an easy manner because he's already made a representation of it, and so can then channel it in to other things such as protecting allies, himself, or empowering his other two swords.
