2018 Lore Tournament: The End

Hey everyone,

I hope you had a nice start into 2019.

[vlad-salute]

Last year was certainly a great year for the lore, but we chose one story that stands out among all of them. After a series of some close, some not-that-close competitions, we voted Where Icathia once stood by Graham McNeill as the best story in the base universe released in 2018.

Axamuk, a Kohari warrior of Icathia, recounts how he and his companions, Saijax and Colgrim, stood with the city against the might of the Shuriman army and their Ascended warriors. Icathia has a plan to use a devastating weapon that will wipe out the Shurimans entirely, Ascended and all. Yet little do they know of the unimaginable terrors they are about to unleash on Runeterra…

It’s a monumental story telling us about the release of the greatest threat to Runeterra, the fall of the once mighty Icathia and the direct effects of the Void, how it erases everything from the mind and from the face of the earth.

It was a great experience overall, but I could not have done it without some awesome people, including but not limited to:

  • EdgeLady, for keeping my bad spelling, slow thinking and overall poor usage of the English language in check, providing some thoughts on the tournament structure as well as writing most of the descriptions for the stories,

  • Bioluminescence, for starting this tournament,

  • Several Mods we had to contact to make sure everything works flawlessly,

  • The entire Lore Discord, for simply being great people (not syndra mains though),

  • Everyone who participated, voted, commented on these posts or simply was sticking around for the better part of December,

  • And of course Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Amanda Jeffrey (Yes, it’s Bio again, it’s supposed to be like that :D), Anthony Reynolds, Ariel Lawrence, David Slagle, Graham McNeill, Ian St. Martin, John O'Byran, Mathew Dunn, Meaghan Bowe, Michael McCarthy, Odin Shafer as well as all the talented people that made 2018 the great lore-year that it was.

Thank you all!

Finally, many people did not like that their favourite story lost - and they were right! As I said, there were many great stories this year which made it hard to pick the best. That’s why we wanted to do other tournaments, run by EdgeLady, where we pick up the stories that lost and let them compete in a loser’s tournament without the ones that made it to the finals. Another idea would be a tournament with the Alternate Universe stories, which were excluded from the original tournament. With only 4 participants, this might be a smaller tournament, but still interesting.

So, I’d like to ask you one last time to vote below which tournaments you would be interested in seeing.

Let’s hope 2019 has some great things prepared for us as well! [sg-kiko]

[EDIT] That's it, seems like most of you indeed want both tournaments. You're lucky, EdgeLady will start right now!

Hm, and so the Void prevails. Existence returns to nothing.

#As it should be.

You are now banned from the Discord Server and I want my donation back. Okay, joke aside I really loved how you keep the tournament going and I feel honored to be able to support the winner's comission. To all authors: Keep your good work up and can't wait to see that 2019 will bring!

I'll take that as a special thank since I'm the one bothering most people with my Syndra love :')!

Now, was a great tournament. Obviously, all stories were great (Anthony Reynolds you're my hero for writing The Dreaming Pool)!

I can only encourage people to participate in the little fundraising. Even if I'm not a fan of Icathia or Shurima, a drawing such as this could be awesome!
