Hey everyone,

today it is almost two months ago, but maybe you still remember our Lore Tournament? As a reminder, here is the final post: Twilight of the Gods vs Where Icathia once stood I really enjoyed hosting this tournament, since for some reason, Bioluminescence had to stop. Recounting all these stories again made me realize that the League Universe is so much more than a game and pulled me deeper into the lore, if that was even possible.

In 2018 we saw a lot of great stories: We got to know strength in all of its forms through the stories set in Noxus, we uncovered the secrets of Icathia and the Void, we explored the wild magic lands of Ionia. We witnessed the fall and imprisonment of the Darkin and we learned of creepy stories that should remain untold in Bilgewater. And most importantly, we learned of the great evil that threatens Valoran, Runeterra and everything beyond. These stories are impressive on their own account and we are grateful for every piece of lore, but we chose one that stands out among all of them: Where Icathia once stood by Graham McNeill.

Axamuk, a Kohari warrior of Icathia, recounts how he and his companions, Saijax and Colgrim, stood with the city against the might of the Shuriman army and their Ascended warriors. Icathia has a plan to use a devastating weapon that will wipe out the Shurimans entirely, Ascended and all. Yet little do they know of the unimaginable terrors they are about to unleash on Runeterra…

To celebrate this story and it's author, we commissioned artwork which shows him fighting against his own creation: The unknowable nothingness of the Void. We deliberately wanted to include Graham with a scottish Lochaber axe, fighting the void creature alongside Jax, so the image is more memorable than just void concept art.

I hope Graham sees this, this is our way of thanking you for the great stories, hopefully there are many more to come. I also want to thank some other people:

  • Bio, for starting the tournament and raising awareness for all these magnificent stories
  • Blood Magicks, for handling all things commission-related (I'm a total commissioning noob, this is literally the first time I'm paying for art)
  • Caithresh, for throwing enough money at us to earn a special mention
  • as well as everyone else that contributed

Let's hope 2019 also has some great stories for us, new lore every two weeks sounds promising! And again a huge thanks to all of the narrative team! [vlad-salute]

I've just seen this image/post today, and I have to say I'm blown away...

Blown away that you all liked the story, and that it's had such a great piece of art commissioned to immortalise it in so awesome a way! I love it! Thank you to everyone who read my story and to everyone involved with this picture's creation, especially the artist, Alexander Vincent, for bringing the Void and Saijax so vividly to life!

##We are hoping to do the same thing next year, hopefully with even more competition for the first place, even more community participation in the voting and discussions, and a larger donations pool.

On a side note, since graduating I must have spent $500+ on League artwork. It's a lovely way to both celebrate the game and what you love about it and sponsor great less known artists. There is a kind of twisted pleasure in seducing an artist and killing them with kindness [vlad-salute]

Glad I could support this piece of work, even if it took some time to get finished. Anyway, Narrative Team thanky you so much for making 2018 an amazing year and I don't doubt that 2019 will be even better. And of course a big thank you to Graham McNeill for creating these amazing short stories and I can't wait to read more of your (and the others) work.

I hope you enjoy our humble gift.

Well, this couldn't have come with better timing.

I'm planning on doing some audio versions of League Lore, and I needed a story to start off on.

I thought of this little competition, and was about to go looking......only for you to post this thread.
