If you look at janna and soraka's splash art, you will notice they both have orange crystals around their waste, why is this tho. They don't really have any lore connections that I know of, do they?

It means they're legendary minions.
Soraka lore is no longer canon. She could easily be made into a similar creature as Janna.
Honestly I wouldn't read too much into it. They probably just have it because it looked cool.
I mean they always had these crystals on their belt,even back then when their lores were still completely different from the current ones.
