Ease up on the Varus nostalgia

I personally don't get why people think the old lore was so much better. It was a complete narrative dead end, he had NOTHING left to him except the pursuit of noxian genocide and his eventual death at the hands of the corruption (a generic evil entity with no real goals).

I do feel part of the issue with the new lore's reception is that the comic is extremely quick and difficult to follow. It's hard to appreciate the two characters' connection when you only see it briefly. I find Varus' new dynamic of: A revenge-hungry entity seeking to reunite with its shattered people, exploiting the hosts hatred for noxians in order to seize control of the body far more interesting than his old identity.

HOWEVER: That struggle, that manipulation, falls off almost entirely once the lovers discover each other once again, and it loses the complementary hatred dynamic which is a big part of what had made varus' old lore so interesting. The idea of moral compromise and gradual corruption is lost here due to the fact that a Darkin craving vengeance and destruction is pretty par for the course for how they behave.

It would've been better if his heartlight, rather than taking an equal seat inside of the new body, was a quiet voice constantly reaching out, something nagging at him to pull away from the ever-present temptation of the Darkin and his own rage over his loss. A presence he could feel but only if he was actively reaching for it. Their love could still allow them to resist the control of the darkin without losing that feeling of loss of humanity. What if he had consciously relinquished control of his body to the darkin? And feeling the presence of his heartlight has given him back the strength to resist, but the darkin constantly does its best to make sure that grief and the fires of his rage never burn out.

ALSO Absolutely fantastic work with the cinematic. Gorgeous visuals, really cool song, grim and trippy at the same time. I love it.

LASTLY People should be looking at how the new lore can be improved rather than pretending that the old lore was fantastic. I am willing to bet that the majority of the people complaining were completely uninterested in Varus' old lore, and for good reason. Varus has always been a favorite of mine, being the first champion I played and really enjoyed playing, but his old lore was too standalone to fit into the new league lore. Without summoners and the institute of war all these standalone, isolated stories no longer have a place to fit, and you should expect more to be changed and updated in order to get with the times. Instead of demanding reverts, look for ways to take what is new and make it even better.
