Regardless, Illaoi is still more awesome than Tia Dalma. Also she isn't a god imprisoned.

Well i understand your objection, but don't you feel that we should at least wait for some voicover or lore piece (no Shadow and Fortune does not count in this case i'm afraid, we knew almost nothing about her) before making some judgement? I mean, ok, the love story between Illaoi and GP might be a simple copycat of Tia DalmaxDavy Jones, but is that the greatest of problem? I mean, Illaoi looks different from Tia, considering she doesn't look so much voodoo related after all. I don't know, this is just my opinion, i think we could at least know a bit more about the character before saying if it is nothing original, after all what we knew until now was just that she was a priestess and that she had an affair with Gangplank that's all i'm saying.

Well, considering that Gangplank isn't a squid-faced fuck and Tia Dalma wasn't a Kraken princess... no actually, no I don't.
Riot is known to completely take on things from other sources.
After Playing several games against Illaoi, I found if she loses lane or even goes neutral in lane against certain comps she becomes totally irrelevant to point were it felt she like she stood in the middle of team fights and just watch her die. Because, no form of peel for her teammates. As well, when Illaoi does not get the chance to build damage items b/c she force to build tank since she lost lane; you would win lane even harder.
