Something's seriously been bugging me about the lore lately

I love all the recent champiuons that have come out, but... well.... what is their purpose at the institute of war? All the older champions have (somewhat) solid reasons for participating in the league, but more recently it's just been a case of having a creative backstory but absolutely nothing linking them to the institute.

I love the new and creative things Riot have been doing with champions like the media, promotional pages, music, etc but the fact that none of the champions that have been released in the past 18 months + have any ties to actually being at the institute of war really bugs me.

I've got bad news for you. The institute of war hasn't been canon for months, it was retconned. Lore in general is in a really murky place and most of the older champions haven't been updated accordingly.

Here, I'll tell you the lore right now.

In Runeterra, a new kind of monster has appeared. Humans, animals, the undead, and purple monsters from SHUTUP have gained powers that can regularly destroy cities if they felt like it, and no one can stop them.

Well, someone could, but they died or disappeared or floated up into the sky using their magic controlly powers.

But I digress. All these people with planet altering powers have decided that taking over the world in normal conquest is boring, so they all sent some e-vites, or something, and decided to settle things the quickest way possible.

ON THE (DELETED) RIFT!

Together, they wage eternal conflict, slaughtering their opponents until only one survives. They aren't highlanders though.

The only problem is, when they got to (DELETED) Rift, they found that they could not leave, and every death just brought them a quick break from each other. So instead of being friends, because Kog'Maw is a dick and eats all the food at parties, they kill each other in the hopes that one day they will be able to escape this horrible, horrible land and go back to their families or destroy the world or whatever they do.

The League doesn't exist any lore the mentions it is not cannon now. Confusing, yes it is.

Also those two sentences each champion receives now is about all that they will ever recieve.

Um,buddy.......you may want to take a seat,I got some unfortunate news.

The whole Institute of War/League of Legends/Summoners as you know them are not canon anymore. In lore, there's no Field of Justice,no Summoner's Rift. And no,it's not that they were there & not anymore. The lore team remove their existence for the lore. Why?Because the Lore team felt constrained by the IOW.Always having to add a "And then Blank joined the League Of Legends" limit how they could progress champs' stories. The Lore is seemingly undergoing a massive overhaul.A number of champs are receiving a complete rewrite of their backstories, namely those who backstory was heavily centered around the IOW.

Where they plan to go from here?I don't know.No one besides the Lore team knows & some suspect the Lore team themselves are trying to figure it out as well.Read this:http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/creative-spotlight/dev-blog-exploring-runeterra (please note that this dev blog came out 6 months ago)

And before you ask,the game & lore are separate things. We are still summoners in game & Summoner's Rift still exist in game,it's just that the world in game doesn't exist in the narrative world. Many compare it to Super Smash Bros.,that's how you should look at the game.
