Swains back is turned from us ( for obvious teaser reasons) and his cloak covers such a wide area that it is difficult to see whether Swain still has his cane or not. before I would have said that his posture was too straight for a man using a cane to have but it is very possible, save for those seriously injuried, for a person to walk with a cane standing straight without doing the whole bent back slouched posture that is popular especially for the old and villainous. I’m talking about the cane because it is a very intricat part of swains identity almost as much as Beatrice. From afar he looks like a sickly crippled man that can barely stand let alone rule an empire.
