So, I was re-reading some of the champion lore and something struck me. Jinx only signed as X until the people of piltover gave her the name Jinx. Vi is named for the tattoo she has under her eye (she has amnesia, and doesn't know her actual name). There are some obvious similarities and some already well know, curious differences between them.

So, the more obvious theory are either test subjects or clones of either Zaun or Noxian design/intent. Both are naturally skilled warriors, with a penchant for technology (vi made her gauntlets and since ziggs is the inventor of hexplosives and supposedly didn't give any to jinx, it's safe to say she made them herself). So, if that's the case, we have subjects 7 and 10, where are the rest?

And we already know that zaun has been experimenting and trying to create champions (zac) so anyone think this is plausible, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Or perhaps there is a darker side of Piltover; a seedy underbelly that more closely resembles Zaun than any of Demacia's allies. Perhaps they were orphans that were given these number names as they were augmented?!

Although, the origin of Vi's fighting ability and weapon of choice is explained in her lore. She seemed like a normal criminal until she go those clockwork gauntlets and decided crime was bad.

Well there is also a thief who calls him/herself C who is mentioned in Caitlyns lore and C is the number 100(i think) so that could actually make it a total 100 test subjects(unless it is a mere coincidence which is quite possible).

Despite this clone theory, Gypsylord told us that VI had parents. So that can be dismissed i suppose. I believe that C, V and jinx know each other and used to be in the same gang before VI went into the police force. VI suffered some trauma as Gypsy said and made her catch amnesia.

Over the years VI probably forgot who jinx was, but jinx didn't. And to Answer Gypsylord's question about what makes jinx target VI in such a manner is; That explosions might cause VI to remember things about her past life, although jinx is having fun doing so.

And i also think that Caitlyn did not just give VI a random opportunity to join her as a partner. Something tells me that CAit is using her as bait to catch a certain someone........
