My thoughts on the problem with the new lower rank emblems and how to solve these problems
So there are two main problems I currently see with the new rank emblems. One is the colors. Out of the five lower tier emblems the only one to stand out color wise is gold and I feel like gold can do a better job of standing out than it already does. The second problem is a bit more complicated imo and i'm talking about how every single emblem looks cool, making it harder to slowly make them look cooler as you increase in rank. I feel like because they start out looking cool and just slowly get cooler, (most of the time) making the sense of progression is a bit lacking and by a bit I mean a lot in lower ranks. I personal feel like its okay to make bronze and Iron not look as cool, they are the lowest ranks after all, for the sake of going from a basic emblem to a cool emblem as you rank up instead of a cool emblem to a very slightly cooler emblem? Now to go into details. I feel like the low ranks don't need as much going on as they have. I'm going to start with bronze and silver and come back to Iron because I feel like bronze and silver are the biggest problems here. Bronze looks sick, bronze looks slick, bronze looks sharp, bronze looks deadly, bronze looks sexy. If we are talking about design alone and not color I'd rather have the bronze emblem on a shirt or something more than I would the silver. That's not to say silver looks bad, just bronze looks too good for what rank it is. Now why does bronze look better than silver? Well starting from the top if we look at what appears to be the hilt of the sword it just has more going on than silver. The very top forms what it almost like a Y with some extra decoration going on, just below that are more decorations that appear to be almost like tiny wing things, and then below that we have a very nice looking cross-guard with a very nice design. Now looking at the same part of the silver emblem, we have a grip with absolutely no extra designs and a simple looking cross-guard that kind of just awkwardly and inelegantly sticks up. Now moving on to the left and right sides, I feel like the bronze emblem looks far too elegant, sharp, dangerous, ect. Unlike the hilt I think that silver emblem actually looks very good here, however not any better than the bronze. I like how on the silver emblem there seems to be a three layered approach. The top helmet/shield looking layer, a layer that appears to be just below that, and then the sides appear to be a third layer below that. I think this three layered approach is very good and is one of the few things that actually distinguishes silver as a higher rank than bronze. Now how do we fix this exactly? Well lets start with iron and work are way up. Again I feel like its okay for the lowest ranks in the game to not look as cool as they could be to give us more room to build on them so I think iron should be a much much more basic design. Starting at the hilt get rid of that thing on top of the grip that curves downward and to the left. Make the cross-guard much more simple, It doesn't really need the gem thing in the middle, the swirls on the side, or the things on top of the swirls. Just a solid Iron bar will do fine as the cross-guard although adding one small touch to it instead of three would be okay too. Now for the stuff on the sides, (top right and left and bottom right and left) just straight up get rid of it. As for the bottom sword part, make it a very simple sword, it doesn't need to be jagged. As far as the center helmet/shield looking part, either just making it look like a very basic T, or getting rid of it all together and just making it look like a plain shield is fine, although I feel like perhaps the T design would be better so it wouldn't be the only rank without that kind of design. I haven't actually talked about the center parts on the emblems before because I feel like those are actually all very well done. If I were to picture all of the center parts as helmets they all look better and better as rank increases aside from iron and bronze. If I were picturing iron and bronze as helmets imo, they look equally good which is why i'm suggesting going for a very basic T design on iron instead of the good looking curvature it currently has. Anyway, if we now picture iron as I have described it, it looks very plain and simple which I think is good. Now if we picture the current bronze beside the iron I just described it looks like a huge improvement, which is what i'm going for here and what I feel like is important, but now that we have room lets cut down on bronze a bit so there is an equal amount of improvement between iron, bronze, and silver. Again starting from the hilt there is so much going on here and now that iron has almost nothing going down there we can cut down a bit while still making it look like an improvement over iron. To do this I think taking out the middle wing design would be fine, and simplifying the top part. Now moving on to the sides since iron has no side pieces I don't think we need side pieces that extend from bottom to top on bronze. I think leaving the top side pieces and cutting it off right at that middle part and getting rid of the side decoration below that would be fine here. I think it would still look good and be an improvement over iron but it would help tone down that sleek, sexiness that makes silver not even feel like an improvement. Now for silver. After what we have done to iron and bronze it now feels to me like there is actually improvement in the emblems as we improve in ranks and the only thing that needs to be done on silver imo is just kinda completely redoing the top hilt part. Even after simplifying bronze the top hilt parts looks about equally as good so I feel if the top part was redone on silver to have a little more going on that's all the improvement it would need. Now picture these three emblems I have described to you in your head. Imo there is a much better sense of progression than there is currently where I feel like that can currently be hard to tell apart. Yes iron and bronze don't look as cool anymore but I feel like they don't need to and it's a worthy sacrifice for the sake of visual clarity of what rank each emblem is suppose to be.
