For the longest time i thought it had some kind of lore, like an entire civilization of people from runeterra mass produced the thing and used it to survive the rune wars. Turns out there isn't (or maybe i didn't manage to find any?). Still, I would love to read a story based off of that if riot ever releases one

Holy shit I could totally get behind that headcanon. Just sounds like such a clever high fantasy plot.
Personally I always viewed Zhonya's like the Time-Turners from Harry Potter; hard to produce and thus very rare/limited in quantity. Possibly only one in existence since the name seems to suggest it belonged only to one person (Zhonya).
I don't think it has any lore behind it though sadly, closest we have is Ekko's Z-Drive and whatever that giant clock thing is on Zilean's back.
