Since the story update about Varus I've been thinking about this quote.

With old Varus this quote was 100% accurate and really drove home who he was, a lone survivor who would avenge his family or die trying.

With new Varus lore though this quote means nothing though because he is a man with EVERYTHING to lose. If their combined form dies than Valmar and Kai lose each other which to them is everything. To the darkin Varus he loses his body meaning he can't exist anymore and has to go back to whatever goo pile form he was before.

Just a thought I had, It's really interesting how quotes can change in meaning so much.

Riot literally has no idea what "loss" means. They continue to act as if the new story has the exact same themes as the old. Every time someone asks why the themes weren't preserved they just say that they are and since they consider the interpretation to be subjective they don't have to respond to any rebuttals.

Varus is the darkin. And the darkin were almost wiped out in the past. So yeah he has nothing to loose anymore.

Varus' VO is now outdated, and on the table to be updated at some point, likely sometime this year. /thread

It’s almost like the line was written for a completely different context and character.

I don’t expect the line to make it when he gets a VO.

From what I gathered of the comic. Varus and Valmar struggle for control over the body. Varus eggs Valmar on to give into his hatred and thirst for vengeance against the Noxians because the more Valmar does, the more control Varus gains. On the other hand, Kai's consciousness existing within the body acts to persuade Valmar to forgive and be strong so that Valmar remains in control.
