Does Kai'Sa's lore make sense? [SERIOUS DISCUSSION]

Good evening guys! I think a lot of us are discussing the new champ Kai'sa. She is the first Void-related champion since Rek'sai, and we've waited a few years for this announcement. Her kit seems amazing with how versatile it is, and I am looking forward to her game play in the League. With all that is said about how excited we are to play her, there is inconsistencies within her lore. As someone who loves the void over every other faction, I'd like to argue what is wrong with her story and how it breaks the lore behind The Void.

Before I begin, i'd like to think my best friend HighAceKiller for debating with me on the issue. He tried to advocate for this champ's lore, but started to see why it was inconsistent after an hour long debate. He gave me the idea to post it here to get some of our questions answered. So here it goes!

The Void is this mysterious dimension that exists outside the boundaries of Runeterra (the world). Little is known about the void and little is heard about the void. Those who historically have come into contact with the void are corrupted and/or go missing never to be heard of again. Of course there are a few who have survived, they didn't survive without severe consequences. Kassadin lost his daughter to the void, and he would do anything to bring her back home - even sacrificed himself to be consumed by the void. The Void is known to either consume or corrupt individuals, and although Kassadin is able to maintain control for the most part, the creature inside of him is corrupting him every second. Malzahar is the second exception, but he is corrupted beyond salvation. The last exception is Kai'sa, a girl who got lost in a world of predators and the only way to survive was to become one.

Here is the issue with Kai'sa's lore for the most part. She is in a symbiotic relationship (mutualism) with this Void creature. That is impossible by the implied laws of The Void established by known Void creatures. The key phrase in her introduction is "endured through sheer will and a symbiotic second skin adapted from a LIVING Void creature." The inconsistency here is that it isn't enough information for us to know if she is corrupted or not. She would have to implied by the laws of the void. In world of apex predators, the symbiote void creature has to be controlling her somehow.

The second inconsistency is there is no explanation of how the creature and her became symbiotic. The Void from what is safe to assume is very familiar with Runeterra. The area where Icathia is, which is an ancient city in Runeterra that is considered mythical, is said to be the way the Void creatures enter Runeterra. The creatures should have some knowledge of the magic and mysterious that most runeterrans are unable to know about. dark and dangerous powers that maybe Ryze, Malzahar, and Kassadin really know. Kai'sa is no exception because she is not known to have wield any powers prior to entering the void. Even if she had any powers, don't you think the void monster would know of it and be able to withstand it?

Lastly, her story suggests that humans can live in the void without corruption or dying within weeks. With no important details of her current sanity, we can only assume she is corrupted. All humans who have come into contact with the Void have been corrupted. So again, Kai'sa is no exception. If she is consumed, Kassadin failed his purpose. If she isn't consumed, RIOT would have to establish new boundaries to The Void

EDIT

CoolRadius, the primary writer for Kai'sa just confirmed that he will be explaining how Kai'sa survived the void without losing her sanity. however, this is still controversial.

A girl her age should not be an exception. We know the terror the Void brings to Runeterra, and we already know her ability survive with the help of a voidling makes no sense. In my opinion, I don't want to see the Void become less mysterious. I want there to be more monsters that prefer to consume and adapt, not some girl who somehow meets a void-spawn that helps her kill its own kind. on top of that, the Void-Spawn doesn't even have a voice overs in game play. So far all Void Monsters have a voice over, even rek'sai's voice over counts because she isn't suppose to be intelligent. she's a rabid creature. The voidling that Kai'sa carries must have been able to communicate with her, no?

I don't see how she was able to wear a LIVING Void creature as a suit without it having a mind of its own or being hostile to her. Riot has a lot of explaining to do.

Have you read the lore of Kai'Sa? I dont think so, so, everything is speculation.

EDIT: yeah, i read the whole post, so i will quote something that the op said:

Little is known about the void and little is heard about the void.

The only facts that we know about the void are: _"The Void is a nightmarish dimension said to exist outside space and time, where terrifying living weapons were wrought to win an ancient and long-since ended war. No-one truly understands how the Void came into existence" _... Everything else are myths or speculation. So, How does the ""lore"" (that we dont have) of KaiSa contradicts that?

i've posted a thread on how disappointed i am about kassadin's daughter i waited year to see her twisted edgy design and they hit me back with generic female number 428, in a skin tight suit and we're lead to believe she survived years in the void just fine and dandy it doesn't make any sense, kassadin goes into the void for a little bit and suddenly he has to wear a mask and shit, you know a little twisted. but no years in the void and we get a sexy vayne skin basically.

i waited years for this champion, i was so hyped i was thinking maybe its a girl that's even more subtly twisted and dark than annie but no, bland and uninspired. i've never been so disappointed by riot honestly.

Why do you ask for serious discussion while also reposting the same discussion topic that’s already popped up five times today?

While I would have preferred it if she was somehow mutated,I do feel like you are jumping to conclusions here.

The symbionte is likely the reason why she isn't mutated like the other beings that came into contact with the void and we don't know how fast she got it. She might have gotten it mere minutes after entering the void.

Similar,we don't know how sane she still is. Her short snipped said that she now has to decide for herself which world she has to choose, which means that she does consider the void to be preferrable to runeterra, which doesn't sound very sane to me.

Dude, wait until her bio and colour story comes out

I don't think void spawns care who they attack. They'll attack each other if it means survival. My best guess is that the void creature that helped her is too weak on its on to survive and needs a host body with more intelligence to guide it.

This is Riot’s World; it doesn’t matter if there are “established rules” in place set by them. They can ultimately say “Know what? Fuck that” and make exceptions in their lore for the sake of something new.

That being said, I imagine that this is a case of the “Child did what nobody, but more importantly their parent, could not” trope pervasive in both Western media and the Anime culture. Through sheer willpower and probably with help from her void bio-suit, she has resisted any heavy influence from the Void.

I don’t think she’s completely “whole” though, and by that I mean her sense of morals is probably completely off; she spent a large portion of her life constantly fighting for her own survival. She isn’t going to be “normal”

Then again, what champion is normal?

I can't wait to see the ingame banter / interactions with kassadin. I want to know if that's truly his daughter.

Piepurr2/22/2018, 2:46:14 PM1 votes

i did hear her interactions and she is indeed kassadin"s daughter , and she called jinx sister but i don't think she's her sister since they are from different universes , Kai'Sa was claimed by the void (how so ?? idk and why ?? idk ) , in her interactions with Malzahar she said let's put the story straight and i forgive you Malzahar but i do not forget so that means there is a secret hidden there , when she attacked void-spawns she would say this is my home void-spawn this means she really is from the surface , she also said the void is beneath and it'is a power not a place reaching to consume all life , she indeed grew up in the void in plain emptiness how ? idk but there is a hint to survive among void spawns you must be like one which explains her 2 skin ( a living breathing void creature ) she said that it is his home on her and he lives on her but it feels painful , btw she came back from the void to save herself but when ?? i don't know , it seems she isn't corrupted she still talks positively and she even hunts void-lings or void-spawns so how ? idk
pls answer my i don't knows

jinx has a voice line that says "you think i'm crazy? wait til you see my sister" and im pretty sure kai'sa has a line that addresses jinx as sister? not sure if her calling her sister is meant as actual sisters or just addressing another female
