Does Kai'Sa's lore make sense? [SERIOUS DISCUSSION]
Good evening guys! I think a lot of us are discussing the new champ Kai'sa. She is the first Void-related champion since Rek'sai, and we've waited a few years for this announcement. Her kit seems amazing with how versatile it is, and I am looking forward to her game play in the League. With all that is said about how excited we are to play her, there is inconsistencies within her lore. As someone who loves the void over every other faction, I'd like to argue what is wrong with her story and how it breaks the lore behind The Void.
Before I begin, i'd like to think my best friend HighAceKiller for debating with me on the issue. He tried to advocate for this champ's lore, but started to see why it was inconsistent after an hour long debate. He gave me the idea to post it here to get some of our questions answered. So here it goes!
The Void is this mysterious dimension that exists outside the boundaries of Runeterra (the world). Little is known about the void and little is heard about the void. Those who historically have come into contact with the void are corrupted and/or go missing never to be heard of again. Of course there are a few who have survived, they didn't survive without severe consequences. Kassadin lost his daughter to the void, and he would do anything to bring her back home - even sacrificed himself to be consumed by the void. The Void is known to either consume or corrupt individuals, and although Kassadin is able to maintain control for the most part, the creature inside of him is corrupting him every second. Malzahar is the second exception, but he is corrupted beyond salvation. The last exception is Kai'sa, a girl who got lost in a world of predators and the only way to survive was to become one.
Here is the issue with Kai'sa's lore for the most part. She is in a symbiotic relationship (mutualism) with this Void creature. That is impossible by the implied laws of The Void established by known Void creatures. The key phrase in her introduction is "endured through sheer will and a symbiotic second skin adapted from a LIVING Void creature." The inconsistency here is that it isn't enough information for us to know if she is corrupted or not. She would have to implied by the laws of the void. In world of apex predators, the symbiote void creature has to be controlling her somehow.
The second inconsistency is there is no explanation of how the creature and her became symbiotic. The Void from what is safe to assume is very familiar with Runeterra. The area where Icathia is, which is an ancient city in Runeterra that is considered mythical, is said to be the way the Void creatures enter Runeterra. The creatures should have some knowledge of the magic and mysterious that most runeterrans are unable to know about. dark and dangerous powers that maybe Ryze, Malzahar, and Kassadin really know. Kai'sa is no exception because she is not known to have wield any powers prior to entering the void. Even if she had any powers, don't you think the void monster would know of it and be able to withstand it?
Lastly, her story suggests that humans can live in the void without corruption or dying within weeks. With no important details of her current sanity, we can only assume she is corrupted. All humans who have come into contact with the Void have been corrupted. So again, Kai'sa is no exception. If she is consumed, Kassadin failed his purpose. If she isn't consumed, RIOT would have to establish new boundaries to The Void
EDIT
CoolRadius, the primary writer for Kai'sa just confirmed that he will be explaining how Kai'sa survived the void without losing her sanity. however, this is still controversial.
A girl her age should not be an exception. We know the terror the Void brings to Runeterra, and we already know her ability survive with the help of a voidling makes no sense. In my opinion, I don't want to see the Void become less mysterious. I want there to be more monsters that prefer to consume and adapt, not some girl who somehow meets a void-spawn that helps her kill its own kind. on top of that, the Void-Spawn doesn't even have a voice overs in game play. So far all Void Monsters have a voice over, even rek'sai's voice over counts because she isn't suppose to be intelligent. she's a rabid creature. The voidling that Kai'sa carries must have been able to communicate with her, no?
I don't see how she was able to wear a LIVING Void creature as a suit without it having a mind of its own or being hostile to her. Riot has a lot of explaining to do.
