I haven't been playing league for very long compared to some people here. That I'll admit so I may seem a bit out of line when I say that the lore is a lot shorter than I remember it being. From what I've heard and read it seems the Riot thinks that we as players don't care about the lore when I think it's the exact opposite for a majority of players.
How awesome is it when you make a lore reference in /all chat and someone on the other team gets it whether it is as obvious as the 100% Wifesteal bot lane or as unheard of by new players as the Urf the Manatee skin for Warwick. I think that lore is a major part in how players think about the game. I notice that a lot of people in my elo (silver) rage a lot and flame you for making puns just because they don't get it.
I think that having the lore is important to keeping people in the know of how this game started. It started as two factions(Demacia and Noxus), ruining much of Runeterra and so the League of Legends was created where summoners could summon champions to battle on the Fields of Justice. Integrating the lore with gameplay seems to get the whole community hyped. Ascension when Azir came out which displayed the story of how Xerath attempted to ascend but failed and anyone who was curious as to why Xerath was at the center of the map could google it and the story of Renekton, Nasus, and Xerath would come up. Then we have Bilgewater. The story of the fall of an uncrowned king, a master mind who got her revenge and the rebuilding of a fallen man. This was a genius way to include lore. No, the summoner ions were not worth the effort in my opinion(I'll be sticking with my Samsung Ozone 2014 icon). But this interaction with character models was really awesome.
I can only imagine that it was a lot of work for the Rioters but I also know that to work at Riot you have to really want this game to succeed so I think that the right direction for the lore side of this game to take would be to reinstall a lot of the deleted lore. I can understand the removal of summoners, kind of. Ok, actually I don't understand it at all. We aren't playing Final Fantasy or GTA. I'm not Cloud, I'm not Gay Tony. I'm a summoner who upholds the Summoner's Code. I summon my champion onto the fields of justice and fight for my side whether it be purple or blue. Also since summoners have been removed how does Lee Sin fit into all of this? Is he just blind? How was he created? How did he get into this game?
Lots of unanswered question I have and I know this isn't organized very well but I had a lot on my mind and not a lot of time to write it. Anyway anyone with any insight would be appreciated. (Also I don't want to hear that the client isn't big enough to fit lore. Scroll bars exist.)
