Shyvana and Demacia

So lots of champions have been shuffled around in factions lately, and Shyvana's story is one that I'm afraid might turn away from what we all expected it to be.

We can all see what Shyvana COULD be: She could be a dragon's daughter searching for the murderer of her father (J4), she could be moved around to Mount Targon, moved down to freaking Bilgewater for all I know...

All of these manipulations I think would be unnecessary when considering Shyvana's current canon which ties her to Jarvan and Demacia. Its a very interesting dynamic, where Shyvana isn't aligned with Demacia, but rather aligns with Jarvan. He helped her avenge her father, and in return she follows/protects him. Not Demacia.

Isn't that an interesting dynamic, Narrative team? Shyvana interacting with the other Demacian champions isn't some buddy 'ol pal sort of thing, its excruciatingly formal. She doesn't share their culture and is obviously a stranger to the city and the rule of Demacian civilization, so she's a skeptic. Even more, we all know the fact that Shyvana's been treated poorly as a hybrid, so there is a tense reality that exists between Shyvana and her 'comrades' and their nation. Not only that, but its easy to imagine Shyvana as more Noxian than Demacian. She's not very friendly, has a pretty mean sense of humor, and boy does she like the heat of battle. Any sort of clash or fight where someone prods at why Shyvana fights for Demacia, or even sticks by Jarvan IV would be an interesting exchange of words, definitely.

The story would be wonderful to develop. Shyvana is autonomous, sticking by Jarvan's side out of her own creed and ethic. It would be more than cool to see her slowly erode away the barriers between her and mankind, which has given her so much grief as a child. So please. Keep this story. Edit it, sure. Change it, okay. But please be conservative on this one. If you do change it. Which I think you will.

TL;DR Turning Shyvana into some avenger or changing her alliegences would completely ruining this extremely unique story Shyvana has going for herself. So in case you rework her lore, please don't do it would cry/10.

I think you don't know much about Shyvana. But you do share the right idea about her lore.

She's a dedicated Demacian and an Elite Guard. She was brought to demacia for her skill and power and as a favor to Jarvan, but her allegience most definitely is strongly to Demacia.

Shyvana's interaction with others is due to her personality. She's a reserved person whom thrives in the heat of battle. She's not a generic soldier, she's a Military asset.

Nothing should change about Shyvana, because she's literally one of the best female characters created in the past decade of gaming.

Shyvana's lore is absolutely fantastic, and impressive. She has no direct tropes associated with her except vengeance and Female Power Fantasy, and even her revenge is non cliche, She let someone help her, and unlike the stereotype Shyvana's rage and vengeance seeking didn't consume her and destroy her, it instead gave her a reason to fight and a reason to Grow and afterwards she found friends and a home.

She's probably one of the most significant and well done characters in League of Legends. Her lore doesn't need any changes even with the retcon stuff.

If they pair J4 with someone other than Shyvana, I will go to Riot headquarters and set myself on fire in protest.

I kinda want a big battle between Shyvana and Sion, with Galio in there for good measure. Just sayin'.

But on a more serious note, I doubt they're gonna change Shyvana's lore. Shyvana's one of the few champs from 2011 that has lore with absolutely no connections to the now retconned league, and as such its strong by its own merits. I feel like, because of the fact she has a relationship with Jarvan that's already been put forward, that they shouldn't and wouldn't want to change that. They may change how she became Demacian, perhaps making it a more modern affair, but I feel like she'll stay Demacian, through and through.

Unless they make her more "connected" to the outside world, there's no real reason to change her.

Demacia needs heroes. The core motivation for bringing Shyvana to Demacia is simple, Demacia needs power. Shyvana is just that, Jarvan gave her something she wanted, and in return she's a vicious and brutal asset to Demacia's military might.

He most certainly would not be frowned upon for bringing a DRAGON to Demacia that fights for them. You bring one of the most powerful creatures know to Valoran to the might of the demacian military, Definitely wouldn't be frowned upon, that'd be praised. In a Mideival arms race, a dragonic would be an incredible intimidation factor, Noxus or any enemy hears word that Demacia has a fucking dragon in their control, guess who'd think twice before sending their warriors out and about to try to attack.

The motive for Jarvan turns to be positive for both of Demacia and Shyvana, but don't forget the reality of war.

Shyvana and Jarvan do share a bond, their bond is a warriors bond and a shared allegiance due to a common enemy. Shyvana's bond with Jarvan is born from the experiece and trust it takes to stand next to someone in a situation that might leave you both killed. A friendship born in flames, the tide of battle. This is a way of warriors, a way of those who spend time in the darkest of situations, put their lives on the line for others, those who fight for a reason and for the bloodshed of ones past.

This Jarv x Shy nonsense is just that, nonsense and people not actually caring for these characters. It's not something to toy with for this sake of "cool." I'd give more respect to those characters than that if you really cared about them in the long run. The only reason anyone puts these two together is because Shyvana is female and that's no reason to automatically throw 2 characters together. Imagine if it was Vayne who helped Shyvana, would you be pairing them then? Afterall Vayne does have a Dragonslayer skin, is important to Demacia, and could easily be interchanged with Jarvan.
