Why buy skins when Riot arbitrarily wrecks the artwork

I queued up for an ARAM last night and got Miss Fortune and the game automatically selected the cowgirl skin. I took one look at it and thought to myself "no this can't be right... I know I own an MF skin that doesn't make me want to vomit." Yet lo and behold I double-check and sure enough they went ahead and replaced an awesome splash with an obscenely inferior version.

I really don't get it. It's like if I went out and bought a Toyota Supra and then one night the Toyota corporation sneaks into my garage and replaces it with a Camry. In what world would that be acceptable?

At first I thought they made this change to tone down the sexuality of the splash but the new splash is even more sexual than the old one (except in a much more hamfisted way) So it's not even that.

The only other explanation is that Riot do this to induce people to buy another MF skin that isn't so awful. I guess that makes sense although who is to say that they won't replace that skin either. Besides that, I don't really like any of the other skins as much as I did the old cowgirl MF.

They're essentially getting all skins the same splash art across every region. Less resources wasted making new ones for each place.

Yeah, I asked the same thing when they butchered Fiora into the hideous thing that we all now loathe. Riot doesn't really care, bro. They're just gonna do whatever they want.

So, you're telling me that you buy skins for their splash-art, which only appears in the client and the pre-game loading screen (with the exception of Ultimate skins), rather than the actual skins themselves for their in-game models? That seems kinda dumb.
