Downfall of League ( "Harrowing 2015" "LCS > Average Player" )

My favorite things about league is the Lunar Revel and Harrowing, they always throw a big enough celebration in their game that it feels worth celebrating for. This year however Lunar Revel came and went too quickly and Harrowing is nonexistent(Posted on Halloween day), the only thing Riot seems concerned with is its professional level of play. Riot has money and is spending less and less on its main consumer, The people at home playing with their friends. Riot needs to take a hint at the many YouTube videos concerning the downfall of league on the unprofessional level of play. I feel that League of Legends downfall really started not with its complex patch notes and champion/item reworks but with the neglecting of its Yearly celebrations.

P.S. Where the heck is my Reaper Diana skin!? Diana

Gonna have to disagree with you on a few points.

I don't get the focus on LCS, honestly, I mean, they have different departments working on the events and pro play, I have no clue why they didn't do both. I can only assume they're busy doing more lore things like Bilgewater behind the scenes, or preparing something bigger for Snowdown.

But moving on; there has always been videos for just about any long term online game about how certain games were going to die. WoW Cataclysm, many predicted it would end. What has it been? 2 expansions later? (am I forgetting one or something?) with many more planned. It's declining in subscribers, sure, but it's lived a long healthy life, is still quite lively, and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I honestly completely disagree with them spending less on the common consumer. Think of all the promos they've done for no reason other than "It's pretty cool". Smite & Ignite, EVERY champions teaser than came out recently (except Kindred, don't remember a video for them). The cinematics they spend millions of dollars on, and of course the skins they pump out every patch. Those don't help the LCS, they are for the consumer.

As far as large gaming companies go, Riot Games is definitely one of the best regarding their players.

And personally (just nit-picking because I can't help it, I'm just an asshole by nature, forgive me) I'd find it hard to believe your last statement. I honestly don't think you've enough time to pin point WHY league has downfallen. Considering is hasn't yet and the reason you gave pretty much happened today.

Yeah, I've seen this dozens of times with big companies in the past. Once a certain amount of revenue comes in, the exectives take over and the joy gets drained out of the game. Then that super-solid revenue stream that they thought would last forever disappears in a poof! when the next game comes out and the fan loyalty isn't there to hold them for another season.

This game has been progressively getting worse since Magus got removed.

Worlds was pretty crappy too. 3-0, 3-0, shoulda been 3-0.

All the focus on the LCS drives me away from it.

I just don't get why it's SOOOOO hard to release the Harrowing/Halloween bundles and the three skins and two icons that are already made...like it should be simple just to put it in the store. This is really annoying.

Considering Worlds broke record viewership in its first week, Riot garnered 600 million+ last year and most likely more this year, and the player base is still seeing net growth each year and its closest competitor is still minuscule in comparison based on both revenue and player base I'm just gonna say...no there is no downfall here just disillusionment among some players.

Seriously this is like all those reddit post saying America is dying even though its still easily a first world country but at least those claims have statistics like incarceration rates and education stats to fall back on. Based on every statistic involving a company and a video game LoL isn't just safe its comfortably safe. Am I saying I'm happy there is no Harrowing this year? No. But seriously, doom saying is just pointless when it is demonstrably wrong.

league has been declining and if it took a harrowing event for you to realize it you might as well keep kicking out money for them to suck from you.

That's because the people at home playing the game aren't the main consumer anymore.

I don't know the finer details of Riot's money flow, but I'd bet almost anything that at least 80% of their income comes from merchandise and tickets for events, along with whatever they earn from televising their championships.

Riot needs to remember that their revenue comes from its players and not from LCS. If they ignore the players, they will loose money, simple as that.

You know just because you don't like or watch LCS doesn't mean the average player is the same way right?

I mean Harrowing was my favorite, but I doubt the average player doesn't care about the LCS.

They can keep trying to promote LoL as a unqualified sport just as much as they've tried to redevelop this game over 6 years.

As someone who didn't get invited to any Halloween parties I was hoping to celebrate the 31st in a personal way, by playing a few late night games with a brand new halloween skin for my favorite ADC. Of course that didn't happen, and now it's back to studying for classes so I probably won't come back later to buy that Jinx skin whenever it actually gets launched.

A League is dead post? What is this, Gamefaqs?

Downfall of a company occurs when they fail to listen to the feedback of, or otherwise distance themselves from, their customers. I'm done supporting them.
