Just ban them already!

We all like league of legends, but the people of league are starting to wear this game down to nothing but nasty bickering. Riot will you please just ban people for saying such hurtful things in chat. Just lay down the law for once! Everyone can just so easily get away with being extremely toxic and not receive any kind of penalty. Its depressing that a game can make me sad just because people are that mean. Riot needs to ban people for saying just about anything hurtful, after a while when all the dust settles from the amount of bans put out because believe me there are a lot needed, people will begin to learn to be nicer rather than jump right into full rage.

Riot can say whatever they want about the matter, but there are so many out there that are just plain toxic that it clearly doesn't seem like anything is being done about the matter.

There will always be more, but you can't just permaban someone at the first sign of negative behavior. It takes time to detect the pattern using reports and determine that they are going to keep acting this way, and the first punishments even then are almost always temporary. Though, Riot claims that only a small percentage ever get punished, and most of them reform after the first time.

The problem is negativity bias; the tendency to easily remember negative aspects of an experience and completely forget the rest. If one person is an asshole in your match you probably make no significant note of the other 8 that were reasonable, and end up saying "wow everyone is toxic!". As mentioned above also, it takes time to be sure someone needs to be punished. Just because they act this way this time doesn't mean they usually do, and doesn't mean they'll keep doing or and never get punished either (it's not like you're playing with the same group every match, unless it's your own premade).

A system only works if people use it. Report the jerk, move on, repeat. I think you may be new to the boards- There hasn't been a week (since I first came here a few months back) where there wasn't a single board of a guy crying about his "underserved" ban.

I agree, but at the end of the day, it is words, on a screen, that will go away at the end of the match. What ever happened to "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" ???? because it seems everyone, not just the league community but the world, doesn't know that words can't hurt you, and as long as there is no apparent threatening of life or violence, there isn't a reason to get worked up over things.... But after violence or threats of harm, that is the line and there should be 0 tolerance for disobeying it. But if a random kid calls me a "retarded asshat", think how that attitude will be out in the world? the only reason they can do it is because they feel safe in there little world behind a screen. So if you don't fuel the fire, then there won't be trouble, and you are the better person in the end. The internet is a free place (other than bandwidth and electricity that is) and having it be taken away because someone cannot take a hateful word or two or even critisism, is going to bite us all in the end.
