Am I the only one who actually likes sett?

Btw I am a straight male.

I think that he is kinda cool. People are saying that they wanted some kind of beast not a pretty boy, and that's respectable. But we already have plenty of beasts like rengar, alistar, mundo, aatrox (kindof), warwick, etc.

I think what they wanted to do here was to

  1. kpop boy band. Obviously. I actually look forward to this unlike everyone else I guess. But this isn't the only thing.
  2. add more to the lore of the "ionian criminal underworld". This is hinted at in Jihn's description but we really don't have anything else about it. Now it's finally being developed more, and I'm sure with the new zed comic will see even more spotlight.
  3. add a "crime boss" archetype. We have gangplank but sett is a bit different, in that he isn't a fat drunk.
  4. appeal to e-girls. Again obviously. But I don't have a problem with this considering the literal half of the roster that was meant to appeal to straight males.
  5. the fighting game they're releasing. Sett seems like the perfect candidate to be the star of that game, and they want him in lol first.

And for these 5 things sett would make a very reasonable addition to the game and shouldn't surprise anyone. Personally I think he's pretty cool so I don't have a problem with reasons 1) and 4) being absolute cash grab reasons.

I like him as well, but I feel like the dislike for him is mostly part of a bigger problem: The fact that almost every new champ has to look either sexy or cute.

Every champ since 2017 except for Ornn and Pyke was designed to be sexy and/or cute. A lot of people here on this board want more unique and interesting designs similar to the ones that we got in the seasons 4-6. When Sett was announced, almost everyone here thought he'd either look more animalistic or be a big manly guy. Instead he ended up looking rather bishounen, even if he is big and muscular.

I don't think he's that bad looking (that is to say I think he looks fine) but I was kind of hoping that he would be a bit more beast like. The hints that we were getting were of an animal face, so I was almost expecting him to have more of an animal head/top body half.

But he looks like the rule 63, melee version of Ahri. Again, I don't think it's bad, I'm kind of looking forward to how he's a Juggernaut and how he'll play, but I'm kind of tired of all of these pretty champs that have been coming out lately. Only Pyke is the one champ in the past 2 years, out of the 9 champs released since Ornn, that isn't cute or pretty/handsome or both.

I kind of just want to see another monster champ or a champ that is farther away from human again, just to feel a bit more variety. And with the future jungler champ being "whimsical", I don't think I'll be getting that for a while.

Imo he doesnt fit his description in his lore. Under "Beast Boy bastard" or "half beast" i would have expected something else. All this stuff about him being an outcast in his childhood because he is a hybrid would have been solved If he would have put on a hat. Because his ears are the only animalistic thing about him.

I feel like they could have made one of his arms wolflike with fur, claws and stuff to communicate his hybrid origin. Would Go super well with his passive too, his human arm being the first AA and the second one being the beastarm which is dealing the big DMG.

Also his hairstyle ist kinda weird imo. Doesnt really fit the rest of his desgin or hes Charakter. Something more mane like with some braids and golden ornaments would be more fitting .

I like him. Though I like most super masculine characters in video games.

He's also half vastayan half human. So kinda human, kinda animal. I'm excited about it as it's exploring new social differences and cultures within the world of Runeterra and I'm sure his abilties will highlight the different aspects of his heritage in unique ways.

He looks cool so far. I'm a bi male and someone commented about the girl and guy behind him and something about bi energy. I can get behind that. I'm not really into Kpop boy bands, I'm more into gruff looking guys like Graves, but I guess they're appealing more to girls. Buff is enough for me, so I won't complain.

I get surprised by titles like these because I suddenly feel like I’m in the minority

What I personally dislike is that his design makes it look like future skin releases are now dictating champion design...

Aphelios and Sett are both obviously designed this way to fit them into a male K-Pop band skin line later. It doesn't feel natural for me that they look like this, but they were made so they can sell us a male version of K/DA at some point in the future. And I am not really a fan of letting skin releases dictate the creation of champions.

I think that monster based champions probably don't sell as well or get played as much if they're not strong. Your average player isn't looking to be a monster most of the time--they might dabble in it, but at the end of the day video games are about fulfilling a fantasy. Most people will try to find an enhanced version of themselves when they're playing casually which usually boils down to someone who is a body type they COULD have had, but don't and they wanna explore it. Cute/Handsome/Sexy champs generally have a higher retention rate than monster champs ( yordles being the exception, but I feel like they fall under 'cute' more than monster).

The list of champs that continue to not get skins largely are inhuman champs and that probably speaks volumes to what people log on and pick to play. Who went long times without skins? Ornn, Ivern, Voli, stuff like that. While they do have dedicated players who love them they generally don't sell as well as a champ that people can more easily project themselves on.

I'm excited for Sett. He's not my style of play, but he has an understandable kit and looks like would be fun to play anyway. I can see him getting a Kpop skin later this year.

Wondering what role he will be played, Jungle perhaps?

RadeticDraws12/12/2019, 8:43:09 AM1 votes

No you are not the only one People just were mislead by the leaks and feel a need to express themselves, unknowing that 2 "beast' champions are soon to get reworked and released on the rift (Volibear and Fiddlesticks)

He looks like a freaking JoJo Character, how does it get better than that. He is a swaglord.

We only have an image and bio of him. Forming any kind of complete opinion is a bit impossible and definitely premature. I usually decide if I like a champ when I see the VO, so I'm gonna reserve judgement until then.

Sett had probably the best reaction of the community for a new champ in the last 2-3 years. As long as I know, most people think he is really cool but they should have changed the Zac Efron haircut.
