@ Riot My feedback about the release of the Ahri statue
I hope this feedback reaches the responsible staff at Riot and perhaps I could get a small statement.
The sell-out of the Ahri statue was really quick; in Europe and even more in NA. I think a lot of things didn't work very good:
Communications: For example I read about the release of this statue on the release day at 7 p.m. So it was too late and the statue was sold out before I know about the release. After that I only saw an announcement on the facebook account of Riot Merch. I haven't any own facebook account so it's hard to know about important release plans if Riot only announces there (and I didn't know till last week that Riot Merch has an facebook account of its own). So I think it's better to announce such an important merch product in more channels, for example also in the news of leagueoflegends.com.
Quick sell-out: Even if I would know about such a release, I wont be able to order them. During work I normally haven't time for private shopping. But when limited editions are sold out before after-work hours, it's not possbile for a group of the LoL-community to buy such products.
Release of limited Ahri statue: As I remember the first Ahir statue (which wasn't released) wasn't limited. The community was able to pre-order too. So I think it wasn't a good idea to make a limited edition (which are sold-out so quickly) when the first try of this statue wasn't limited. A lot of fans pre-orderd the first statue, have to wait 2 years for the new statue and then they coulnd order one caused of this quick sell-out. So a lot of fans are disappointed and I don't think that was the goal of Riot (the Riot Manifesto aims a good player experience).
Releases limited editions in general: I don't think that limited editions of merch is a good idea for Riot merch-shop. If merchandising is the core business of Riot, it would be OK. A merchandising producer needs such hypes for limited editions to sell them with higher prices (and it reduces inventory costs too^^) and the bad experience of the community (fans who didn't get one) isn't the focus (I think no merchandising producer wants to be the most customer-oriented of all^^). So limited editions gets a lot of bad player experience (because a lot of players/fans don't get one) and the most benefit of such limited editions are at individuals which resell the statue with a multiple price/gain on ebay. I don't think that this is the target audience of Riot. ;)
In my opinion the release of limited merch products disagrees the official Riot strategy (Riot Manifesto). A lot of fans don't get the product and are disappointed. And this concerned mostly the same group of the community (for example labourer which couldn't shop online at work). So I think it's better that Riot don't release limited edtions in the future and find a good solution for the disappointed fans caused of this release (and I hope Riot announces important releases in their merch shop better in the future too).
