I was going though the Darius Concept art today

Also you notice a lot of the champions that are one dimensional have a lot of personality in the art and stuff, I really wish riot could show us more of this. Darius was just angry Noxian with his one joke about Garen's spin, which was pretty cute, and I really feel like he could be so much more. I hope they revisit champions, who aren't really need in a Visual Update, nor gameplay update, and give them more to the character. Animations would be AMAZING, (but I understand the difficulty) or even comics that shows more to the character. I just love things that makes the champions I play, relate-able and human. <3 I do suggest looking at the champion pages and see what they're like. It's just so great!

EDIT: Darius is now officially my Husbando for league.

Darius is bloodthristy but at the same time, human (how ironic). Being savage does not make you a robot who shows no mercy against any human being, feels no pain, is totally against love etc. I'm pretty sure Darius loves too, shows mercy to noxian children and maybe even does not kill enemy's women, children and old people. He is not a Chaos Space Marine you know (excluding Kharnates).

The lack of character is, in my opinion, mostly due to the limited number of voice lines many champions received. Over time this has changed from one minute's worth of lines to nearly thirty minutes of dialogue. There is so much personality that can be conveyed through speech as well as behavior, and since story was fairly bare bones once the Institute was removed, we rarely got to see a champion's behavior in action.

My go-to champion when I'm forced to go to shudders top lane. What I like most about my favorite Noxian is that despite wielding a large axe, Darius isn't some muscle-brained numbskull. He's a clever warrior that exploits his opponents' weaknesses, bleeds them low and finishes them in devastating fashion.

Yeah those sketches show off a lot of Darius facial expressions and a bit of his personality. I get the impression that when he is off duty he is a bit of a goofball with a dash of smugness, but he is still a brutal warrior with a fierce temperament, so he looks like less of a hardass that he really is and considering that he got care of Draven when they lost their parents, i'd say he is the kind of guy once in a blue moon that hug his brother and say: I love you bro.

i think that's what they started doing with poppy rework, giving her face some actual expression. apparently they managed to do that with only about 7 'bones' (movable objects) in her face, which is not very resource intensive. So we might start seeing more expression on champs

They explained when Poppy was reworked that human faces are just too small to give expressions to. Sadly.
