I started late s2/s3 preseason. Was this ever a thing? Could it be a thing? Who the fuck is Rabadon, and why is his/her hat so magical? Or should I mark thEse questions with the likes of " how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?"?

Was an item created and used by Zhonya, he (or she) also had a "Ring" that was stolen.
Sejuani uses this armguard... apparently was created or used by Lissandra.
Lantern that was found by Ezreal during his explorations on the Jungle.
SHURIMA. Artifacts that were discovered by the Historian Shurelya (ex member of Riot by the way)
Cape used by the warriors of Shurima (like the ones created by Azir, but humans, not "sandmade")
Items created by Doran, a skilled blacksmith that used to create powerful artefacts like the staff of Wukong... However, after an accident, he got a mental disability or something like that.... so, he does less powerful items (the "Dorans" of the game)

Who creates these weapons? Some big shot smith? Someone is behind yonumu's ghostblade! Or who originally wore the sunfire cape. It is cool that some items are tied to different factions and that some Champs have their own specific item: kalista, Viktor, rengar. Hearing that they are hiring a story teller just wondering if maybe items maybe influencing story line at all.
There aren't any longer stories written out, but there are a few thematic ties. A few items are connected to different factions, for example.
To an extent, yes.
The "Doran's" items were created by a young man who, though a brilliant inventor even as a teen, suffered brain damage on his way to joining the Institute of War and was robbed of the ability to create anything complicated. Though he still has his passion for creation, he can only make the very simplest of items for champions.
The "Ancient Coin" line seems to have been uncovered by excavations by Historian Shurelya.
The Freljord-themed items arrived shortly before Lissandra, which suggests (along with "Frost Queen's Claim") that she brought them to the League of Legends.
They've also added some clues in champion voiceovers, oddly. The gameplay is non-canon, so it would seem that the names can't actually mean anything anymore.
I really want this to happen. Why is lich bane called that? Are there liches in Valoran?
