Seems like Varus lore change was the Lore team playing its ace card...

A lot of the work the lore team has done has been very hit and miss, but the Varus update is just genius. Whether you think the new lore is bad or good, whether it ruined your love for the character or made you love Varus even more you can't deny this was a well thought out play.

The community would be in the same state now even it was a man and a women merging with Varus. But because it was 2 gay men any critic on the new lore is just going to rotate on that subject because in this day and age of SJW if you put a minority in a story, if people say the story is garbage the writer has the perfect defence lined up.. Is it because the main characters are gay?

Dunno maybe I'm paranoid but this whole situation seems like riot is playing the community like a fiddle and will only receive good press about this change of lore. Riot supports gay character despite community backlash

This lore change was calculated and is definitely a win/win situation for riots lore team, the only people that lose are those who cared about and liked the original lore.
