I feel that some of Kindred's inspiration is an allusion the the Grecian goddess Artemis.
I'm currently reading Mythology by Edith Hamilton, which basically is an amalgamation of descriptions and tales from the ancient Grecian and Norse pantheons, and while browsing, I happened upon Artemis.
While reading her description, I found some things that reminded me of Kindred. These include:
-
In one account Artemis was seen as the "protectress of youth" but in other places, she was described as being "fierce and revengeful" The first part can be linked to Lamb being gentle in nature, the second one being related to Wolf.
-
Those said to have passed with a swift, painless death were said to be "slain by her silver arrows." Need I say more?
-
Artemis's close relation to animals can be identified with Lamb and Wolf.
-
She is the goddess of the hunt.
-
And finally, the "uncertainty between good and evil is shown in her" -- that theme can be related to the twin masks of Kindred "a good death" (Lamb) and "an [evil] death" (Wolf)
I may be grasping for straws here, but I believe that these subtle differences are a common trait by both of the fictitious entities, which makes me appreciate the champion even more than I already do.
