Recently the lore for the Order of Shadows stated that the higher ranking someone in the order is, the more shadow markings they'll have along their bodies. Kayn, in his Shadow Assassin form is him if he ascends to his peak and takes over the Order of Shadows, therefore him being the highest ranking member.
