This actually seems like a perfect time for 
to show up in the story to save GP. Then GP could just wait for a perfect time amongst the chaos of his "Death" and then just take over, Again.
I bet George RR martin took a tour of the place and then tampered with the stuff.

...I wonder if the real reason is that the game can't handle two alternate currencies, in which case he will probably come back when BMB ends. Sure, they could have just disabled him from the specific mode, but this is cooler.

is disabled is because one of his abilities is bugged (iirc it's his barrels) and does a bit too much damage. As a light joke Riot says he is disabled because he has died but in reality its because of his ability.
so they killed gp apparently and there is no act 4 planned.. doesn't look like we're going to get any follow up

Nobody's dead yet. No body has been found, nobody was really there to witness. Malcom and Tobias were both getting dragged to the depths when the explosion occured, and Sara was on her ship across the harbor. All she saw was the explosion, the flames, and then became engulfed by rage, ordering more or less a purge on every single one of Gankplank's followers. She asked for his body to be found and brought to her, but I highly doubt she's in her right mind now that she's accomplished her goal.
"Gankplank's dead", seems to fit more into the impression of everyone thinking he is, rather than actualy being, since literaly nobody has solid proof. Now, Bilgewater's going to be a fucking mess. Everyone saw Gankplank's ship explode, including his henchmen and loyal followers. Whoever survived, is going to pull themselves together and be caught in a profound revolution, since the ruler is presumed no more. I don't really think that even if Gankplank's alive he'll just come up right away. Not now, It's not the time. Everyone's going to be killing everyone, all the ganks are going to battle it on the street for whom's going to now rule Bilgewater, and Sara turned pretty much into the thing she hated most.
I think Gankplank's alive, whatever his state is, he's going to wait for this mess to settle itself, let the vermin kill eachother in a way. That will show who's loyal and trustworthy to him, perhaps there's even a group waiting for him. Imagine if he's been rescued by an elite group of loyalists, and now they'll be back to take over what's left, start over the way it was always supposed to be. Or maybe, Tahm Kench is going to play a role. After all, it's Gankplank we're talking about. EVERYBODY in Bilgewater knows who he is.
Or maybe, a bit far fetched, now he's going to reprise a role in the Harrowing?
And now T.F. and Graves are back together. What kind of adventures await them, I can't wait to see. Piltover, they said, where Vi, Caitlyn and Jayce recide, and all those great stuff have come out, what role will a pair of fortune-hunters reprise in all that's happening? Things are going down, I think something big is comming. Really big. And it will have something to do with Ionia too, Irelia's update is going to be what will bring Ionia back to the map. Poppy and the yordle's are going to be re-established with Poppy fullfulling a role similar to Garen's I believe, since their artistic values are pretty much settled with Tristana, Gnar, Heimerdingerdonger getting their Y.U.P. pass, Corki getting touched up and more yordle's to follow.
The pair is back together, Bilgewater is a mess, Azir will start erecting this empire, Harrowing is coming, Shadow isles are preparing an assault on the mainland. The yordle's will get caught up in this, Ionia's getting its shit together, Demacia and Noxus ofcourse will not stand by all this mess. Piltover and Zaun are in their worst state of relations yet, while Freljord is going to get fucked by Lissandra and her Frostguard. And all this, while the Void is preparing to take over. It's going to be fun :D.
PS. or GP is actualy dead(which would fucking suck) and I'm just overthinking this- guess we'll see...
