What are we as players?

Dev Blog: Exploring Runeterra

http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/champions-skins/creative-spotlight/mists-creating-shadow-and-fortune Well, since we know that the old lore is now just League history and no longer canon, and that these upcoming stories will now be considered canon, as it is separated from the game, what are we now? We're called summoners, but summoners no longer exist. We play League of Legends, but the League of Legends no longer exists. I completely agree with the choice to move on from the restrictions, but the idea that we were apart of a universe and not just observers, or playing a game that now doesn't make much sense in regards to the universe itself, was part of what made LoL fun. The lore is still amazing and great to read, but now that the game is removed completely from any part of the lore, and pretty much universe as far as that is concerned, what is the point of it? It's fun still, yeah, but I feel just completely detached now. Aside from getting to see the champions we all love, without having to wait for a cinematic video or to read a new piece of lore, what is the point? I guess my real question is: What is League of Legends? How are we still summoners even? What is the game now, aside from Runeterra's creational history?

According to the lore: We don't exist. The game doesn't exist. The League of Legends doesn't exist. Summoners (the old lore version) don't exist.

According to the game: We are 'summoners' aka players. League of Legends is the name of the game. The lore is the basis or inspiration for the in-game content, like champions, maps and even temporary game modes.

What is League of Legends?

The name of the Game, nothing more.

How are we still summoners even?

Its a fancy name for the player.

What is the game now, aside from Runeterra's creational history?

a Game, nothing else.

We are no longer summoners, but gods who determine the fate of Runeterra in a cataclysmic battle between two opposing forces of the ultimate fighting warriors.

However, not all gods are created equal.

League of Legends stays but the Summoner's are non-existant. For the purposes of the game we are the characters, not ones to control it. Eventually all the Summoner related quotes will be washed away rework by rework, though it's going to take a couple of years, probably a couple more until we completely cleanse ourselves of the old lore.

According to S@20 sources, the sect of the Rakkor and the Solari worshipers are the next to have replacements for their lore retcon and many have speculated that because Rakkor are a the best warrior tribe in Runeterra that the Rift will be held at the top of the Rakkor mountains, conducted by the rulers of the Solari or Pantheon's authorities. Read Pantheon's lore. Not 100% confirmed but hopefully that is what will happen to fix this emptiness.

We as summoners are the equivalent of Smash Brothers players. Controlling and fighting as characters against others that would normally never meet.
