Was Ahri's lover Eduard Santangelo?

For those of you that may have already forgotten, Mr. Santangelo was the man who introduced us to the Vastaya through his journal and a few of his drawings. He was also determined to document and research all the magical creatures that inhabit Runeterra.

Now some of you may be thinking, “That egghead from Piltover? There’s no way Ahri would date him. Didn’t he die before meeting Ahri anyways?” Well there are a few pieces of evidence that suggest he could be the lover she killed.

If you looked at the new evolutionary diagram for Vastaya on the Universe page, you’ll notice that it was drawn by Ahri’s lover since written below her name are the words “my beloved jewel of Ionia”. If you read the short story, “Garden of Forgetting”, you’ll know that Ahri describes her lover as an artist. At first you may think that contradicts what we know of Eduard Santangelo. When you read his journal he sounds more like some rigid scientist than a romantic artist, but if you look back at the diagram it seems like the man who drew it was genuine in trying to research and understand the Vastaya; much like Mr. Santangelo was. That and if you go back and read Eduard Santangelo’s journal, you’ll see that he actually did draw very well, so he was an artist (he even drew an image of Ahri bathing in a lake).

Eduard Santangelo also made it quite clear that he was interested in Ahri. Very interested. He was so interested that the cover of his journal is the image of a nine-tailed fox. It was even stated towards the end of his journal that he was going back on a second expedition to find out more about the fox girl and to further the research for the second edition of his journal. For all we know that diagram was going to be a part of the second edition.

However, the last we heard of Eduard Santangelo (officially) was that he was kidnapped by the Novari Brotherhood during his second expedition in Ionia, and sentenced to execution. He was never heard from again, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he was executed by the Novari Brotherhood. They could have released him. He could have escaped. The problem is that we don’t know for certain what happened to Eduard during his second expedition in Ionia. What we do know is that he was determined to find Ahri on this expedition.

I hope not, Eduard was a pompous fool.

I don't think so because Eduard isn't an artist. He's an upperclass Piltovian that actually works on building and crafting. He is also high on his horse, and I don't think he has THAT great of a capacity to say romantic or endearing things about others. At least, in a way to make them feel special as opposed to him just inflating his ego.

"I'm lucky to have you,"

vs

"You're lucky to have me."

I hope so. It really adds to the tragedy.

I don't think the timeline works out - It seemed to me like Ahri met her lover a bit after the Noxian Invasion, which presumably happened some time ago now. Santangelo seems to have been a much more recent traveler, and probably came across Ahri after the events in the garden.

Usually we'd see Sharjo make threads like these..

Isnt Santangelo very old when he first encounters ahri. And if I remember Ahri describes her lover as young when she rembers him.

Shai - the pig shapeshifter- mentioned to Eduard to be careful around Ahri, because of obvious reason (stealing ppl's souls like it was crazy, she is legit a soul addict at this point) and also maybe, because bad things happen to the men that fall in love with her aka her previous boyfriend. At least that is my opinion on whether Eduard was her boyfriend.

Is there confirmation that Ahri's lover made that evolutionary chart? If there is, I'd like to see where, because although i always thought that Santangelo did made that chart, my brain don't really connect it to Ahri's boyfriend, i mean, that lil caption "My beloved jewel of Ionia" don't really mean anything, we know that Santangelo was infatuated with Ahri so he could just found her name and wrote that just because he likes her, thinking he was being romantic or something (for example, i have a friend who jokingly refers to his crush as "my beloved/my girl" and we know they are not really dating and that she's out of his league but that doesn't stops him haha).

I don't know...after reading about him i can't really imagine Santangelo as the man Ahri refers as "more kinder and selfless than anyone had right to be". In his journal he seems pretty egotistic and self centered, so i can't picture someone that says "It is your choice as to how much to spend on my return, but I imagine you will have to bankrupt the publishing house and all of its investors, at a minimum. Still, the price will obviously be well worth it” as someone who is willing to throw away his life just to calm the hunger of his inhumane lover without questions...So unless meeting with Ahri REALLY changes Santangelo's personality, the only thing that both men seem to have in common is that they knew how to draw :/

I don't think he has enough game to get with Ahri.

I find it interesting that the description of the man Ahri loved was shockingly close to the man that became Lamb and Wolf.

That would be nice.

Wasn't her lover a Vastayan?
