Help a Newbie to Enter the Lore

Hello everyone,

I have played League for quite a while now, since I think S3 or maybe it was early in S4. In all that time, though, I haven't dived into the lore beyond the bios that used to be listed on champion's actual pages in the client (even then only the ones I played). I've heard how amazing the lore has become with new additions and how much work Riot puts into it, so I really want to check it out, but when I visited the page, the only ways that I saw the lore presented were by region and by champion, and then regions have subdivisions that I'm not really sure how I should approach. I'm wondering if anyone could give me any recommendations on good spots to start to enter the lore or good ways to progress through the lore. Or is the best way to do this just to start with my favorite champion and/or region and progress from there?

I suggest just starting with your favorite champion/region.

Personally, Burning Tides is probably my favorite bit of lore. I am a MF main & I love pirates and ghoulies. It's also well written and pretty interesting.

I think if you wanted to go by 1st retconned to latest, I believe start with the Frejlord, work your way to Shurima, Bilgewater, then Mt Targon, then Piltover - Noxus, and now Demacia. I think Shadow Isles is somewhere in between Shurima & Targon?

Just be aware some lores are still pretty outdated. If you have questions about the lore there's tons of lore geeks on here who can offer up some answers and theories.

  1. Go to the Explore League icon.
  2. Scroll down to and click Universe.
  3. Profit.

The universe site is pretty good to give you an impression about the lore http://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_GB/

You can check different regions and lore pieces for individual champions. However note that the lore is getting rewritten,so some of the older lore pieces might be changed eventually. Updated lores usually consist of a bio and a color text(color text=small story for the champion) So if a champion has only a bio and not a color text it is usually an indication that the champs lore was never updated and thus could be changed in the future.

  • Runeterra: generic fantasy world copied from Azeroth (I like azeroth tho, don't scrap this part from the script pls)

  • Demacia: American fascism

  • Noxus: Communist russia

  • Brandle city: land of furries and happy orgies after everybody smoked pot

  • Shadow isles: generic undead world, now not so generic since they are not actually undead but rather people that refused to die

  • Piltover: generic steampunk city of good guys

  • Zaun: generic steampunk city of baddies and meanies

  • Freljord: generic wasteland of ice

  • The Void: Zergs, but this time from another dimension, also they don't replicate themselves, they just eat because they have to look mean

  • Ionia: Weaboo City, if you dare to say that Legend of korra, K-ON, Hunter x Hunter 2011, Monogatari and Naruto aren't the pinnacle of japanese animation and truly works of art they'll quickly dispatch Jhin to dispose of you

  • Shurima: go ask Keith...

  • Bilgewater: place filled with jerks that never bought a single game or music album ever in their life

  • Other unlisted places like mount targon, the komungu jungle and so on: WHAT? I PUT MY PAPERS HERE! Smith? SMITH WHY ARE YOU WRAPPING YOUR DONUTS WITH MY DOCUMENTS!

There you go.
