After digging more into new Aatrox trying to be unbiased, i feel like i made a big mistake

Yeah its me, the same dude that wrote this "totally not rant" Post a while ago: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/NF8Vh66G-the-absolute-worst-thing-about-new-aatrox-is-that-riot-will-not-listen-to-the-community and looking back it was a huge mistake on 100% my part to even write it. it was rude towards the writers, Riot in general, which i also call my favorite Company, and the Community. Also it just pested the Boards with more unneccesary Rage and Rant that i originally wanted to exterminate, at least on my part. I got really emotional seeing another one of my loved Champs get changed (The other was old Yorick) and gave in to my hatred. I officially call my Post a Unneccesary, biased rant and openly beg for forgiveness, especially the Writers and Voice Team of new Aatrox.

Now that my Self-hatret is out of the Way, lets talk new Aatrox. So I dug into him, his quotes and lore especially, because i still just love lores of Champions. To stay unbiased of my, in the 3 day old post shown, clear bias, i treated him like a new Champion named "Boris", just for the keks since i read that here somewhere. Anyway, reading and hearing him like this, he actually is a really deep, great Champion, a once noble warrior gone mad, driven into his rage as a only way to express his despair he felt for Years. Hes not, as i said "So AngEry", hes totally despaired with no other way to vent it then seeking revenge and destruction. He simply can´t act different, and seen from his Point of view, who wouldn´t feel his way.

Tl,dr, My latest Post was total crap, I feel pathetic for even writing it, and new Aatrox is actually a well designed Champion Lore an Quote wise

Making this post is super big of you and deserves a thanks... [sg-soraka] But I mean we have to be careful about this sort of new behavior — otherwise we risk the board’s rep as the most toxic of the toxic being jeopardized.

Terrible things could happen! More rioters engaging, questions being answered, civil disscussion, “cats and dogs living together!”

The horror, the horror...

It's perfectly understandable, everyone has knee-jerk reactions when they find something they liked got changed.

More importantly, I applaud you at being able to look at new Aatrox in an unbiased manner.

This post makes me so happy...mainly because i considered your original post the epitomy of what is wrong with the board community...-rushed conclusions. -Truth distortion through melodrama and hostility towards change.

I hope this post becomes as popular as the previous one so it can now influence people in a good way!

I also have to congratulate you for your courage..not a lot of people have the courage to admit that they were wrong!

But you came around and apologized. that takes guts.

Sadly, this post won't get nearly the same amount of traction and the affect of your first post cannot be undone.

oh well, it happens.

It's called the "Mere-exposure effect": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mere-exposure_effect

Try a self experiment like I did:

Step 1: Pick a musical artist you dislike (I chose Dave Matthews Band) Step 2: Listen to ONLY that artists music for three days. Step 3: At the end of three days, notice how your tastes have changed.

  • At the end of day 1, my head hurt and I didn't think I could continue with the experiment. I thought all his music sounded the same, and my ears and brain hurt.
  • At the end of day 2, i noticed difference between the various soungs, it wasn't nearly as bothersome to listen to, and I was starting to recognize songs.
  • By the end of day 3, I had not only found I appreciated his music, but had picked a few favorites and found myself singing along with the lyrics.

It works the same for League of Legends. Whether it's 'picking up' a new champ, or a playing around with a re-worked champion.

It's amazing how malleable our human brains can be.

It's not a bad thing. It's one of the ways we're adaptable as a species.

It is NOT the spoon that bends. It is YOU.

There IS no spoon.

is Riot holding a knife to everybody's accounts now? First Malicious Metal and now you.

They absolutely butchered Aatrox and they will do nothing about it. The rework is a complete failure and the pinnacle of amateur design. Whoever casted that VO should be fired or reassigned to a different project. It's disgusting and insulting towards people who played or liked the previous Aatrox.

What the hell is wrong with people that they're changing their minds now?

This is an awesome post, seriously. Good on you, man. A couple things, though.

It's good to be kind to Rioters, but "Riot" as a company isn't necessarily the same thing as the people behind it.

The big thing I want to address, though, is that although I agree that the other post wasn't very helpful, it's totally fair for you to be upset by the rework. I'm super happy you've taken another look at it! But as long as you're civil, it's ok to give negative feedback, even to get a little emotional. Although I'd try to vent your frustrations to a friend before you post your feedback.

Champion re-launches are hard. Sometimes champions have a lot of different parts to what they are, and trying to decide which of those are most important, and even then deciding if there's a way to deliver those things for a more holistic experience, is something I'm sure both gameplay and writing sectors stress about. Aatrox has a style of gameplay that doesn't mesh with his character/theme, I feel. Based on what i've heard, it seems there is a change in gameplay style, but he still functions as a Diver and I think he captures the thematic better than before (bluntly, I always thought his literal dive was silly and felt out of place for a character who feels like he should be a Juggernaut).

That isn't to say you'd be wrong to have a differing opinion or to like the old Aatrox better. No need to feel guilty about THAT part. But as someone looking from the outside (not a player of him, myself), I feel the new Aatrox fits better within Runeterra and has a more defined thematic. He was always portrayed as a juggernaut (as a character archetype, not the League class system), but his gameplay didn't deliver on that at all. I feel his Q hitboxes feel too much like a fighting game in that it feels too "fun", but other than that I think his new kit really delivers the feeling of an unstippable war veteran.
