I don't get the hate for the New Varus Lore

Character Old Varus - straight forward old archetype of man torn between family and duty, lost family, and is now out for revenge (plus 1 for corruption via the mcguffin he was meant to protect)

New Varus - ancient being whose kind once laid waste to runeterra, lost war and was sealed, and now is back and wants vengeance on humanity for sealing him and taking out his kind.

Power Source Old Varus - already a deadly archer in his own right, gets a mysterious dark power that has slowly been eating at his being since he made his choice.

New Varus - already a deadly archer in his own right on top of being from a race of very powerful beings (plus whatever bonuses and weakness from having a vessel of flesh and bone now instead of whatever darkin normally were)

Sexual Alignment Old Varus - once a happy family man with his wife and child

New Varus - no signs of which way he swings, let alone we have no idea how darkin came into being, let alone how they reproduce and stuff like that.

Animations and Lines. If anything Riot will eventually get around to him and give him a new model but for now we just have to wait and hope get at least new lines within a month or 2. Let us remember they are constantly working on multiple projects, and other characters with bigger inconsistencies with newer lore still have yet to be touched (i.e. Orianna).

At the end of the day we should of seen new Varus lore coming when Kayn's stuff came out. Everyone already figured Varus was now connected to the Darkin story in some way, and Riot just chose to go in and make it big. Varus is still deadly archer driven by vengance and Varus even still has a "family" given that with his color story currently puts him in Shurima looking around Xerath's Tomb for any clue about his "Sister".

I just really hate the Darkin in general. I hate their visual design, I hate their lore, I hate their name, and when we only had one of them I hated Aatrox' kit, too. I would have been much happier if Aatrox had just ended up being some specific class of demon so I wouldn't have to endure another black and red edgelord champion.

And Riot somehow managed to make the lore surrounded the Darkin even worse than it was already, which in and of itself is quite an accomplishment. Instead of being a demon with a unique, if vague, purpose they're now more or less the Burning Legion. Because League totally needed another faction representing an otherworldly threat. As if the Void, Frozen Watchers, and true Targonians weren't enough already.

You weren't watching his new vid then I take it? Riot's jumped on the rainbow bandwagon with that one. What will it be next - removing gender and gender pronouns from all champions lore? .....

The lore is fine (I think the story's only drawback is that is kind of feels like Kayn's experience with a plus one) the things people are taking issue with is that it is replacing Varus's old lore. It feels like the new lore is less of an update and more of an erasure. Val and Kai could have been a champion that stood on their own but instead they're regulated to a preexisting champion's backstory.

Or at leas that's my persecutive.

The new story isn't not a travesty or anything. Honestly people will probably forget about the whole thing in a week or so. It's not like Riot is going to rewrite their rewrite, people are mainly talking about this because its a new thing to talk about.

For a grieving father and husband, there was sure lack of Voice Over stating as such. You could totally forget old Varus had a family with just playing the game. And no the necklace thing doesnt count since you need context for that to make sense, and context is only given outside of the game rather than give even a small amount in the game through dialogue.
