Some random left over ascended after Azir dies, are tricked by the aspect of twilight into killing each other.
Honestly, most of it was just a speech that is sorta half cleverly disguised exposition.
One of the Darkin calls for a ceasefire in the Darkin War. 8 or so of them show up. He explains how they’re all Shuriman. How they all know each other. The great deeds they did. Basically a bunch of stuff the Darkin should already know but we the reader don’t.
Then he picks up what I think is Sivir’s weapon which is apparently the best weapon ever of their old greatest warrior queen.
They fight over it. The Darkin uses weird magic to win the fight. Then suddenly decides that the ceasefire won’t work so he’s just going to kill all of them. They all blow up in Moon Power, hinting towards Diana and maybe that mermaid whose name I forget having a part in the story. And they reveal that the Moon can undo the powers granted by the Sun.
Then the human space kid that the Darkin had with him and is implied to be manipulating him turns out to be very powerful and takes his now human heart and ominously talks about getting rid of the rest of the Darkin that didn’t show up. I think the girl is implied to be the Twilight Aspect before Zoe. It might actually be Zoe, but her entire persona and dialogue is exactly nothing like Zoe so I’m going with the precursor idea.
After years of brutal war one Ascended has had enough.
He with the help of a disguised 
Zoe(or her predecessor) calling herself Myisha manages to trick 9 other Ascended into a meeting.
All but 3 die those three escape, and Zoe/Myisha rips someone's heart out with her bare hands.
She then begins a crusade to kill or capture the remaining ascended now known as Darkin. The weapon she used is eventually passed down to Sivir.

(and two unrevealed) are sealed in their own weapons.
We also learned the Darkin( ) are Ascended(
) who have lost their purpose. And that ascension is Targonian magic.
Also Varus the Darkin now has old Varus' story for how he became ascended.
