Skin Thematics Matter, and how Riot has forgotten an important lesson.

So, for some of you older players you may remember the kerfuffle in 2013 around a Lux skin called Steel Legion Lux. It was a skin that was poorly received even though it was a fairly high quality skin because people who mained Lux didn't want another grim war-themed skin. Lux mains wanted something fun and lighthearted to go with Lux's personality and the "fantasy" around the character.

Riot actually listened, admitted they had gone the wrong direction with Steel Legion, and the next Lux skin to come out...

Was STAR GUARDIAN LUX.

That's right, the entire Star Guardian lineup was spawned because people expressed a strong desire for a bubbly happy colorful skin instead of grim dark war crap.

Fast forward to 2019, and we have apparently come full circle. Star Guardian is now grim and dark, and it's like this happens to every skin line. This isn't world of warcraft guys, stop corrupting everything good. Just let us have happy bubbly things once in a while.

(Also you have like 10 good villainesses in your roster and you picked the baby-faced forever child. What is the matter with you?)

Yea the whole thing is kinda stupid

Star Guardians aren't supposed to be edge lords

Right??? This is ridiculous, most of us just want the happy cute SG skins to come back. I'm hoping Riot takes the variants thing I suggested into consideration, it'd be the perfect solution.

Look who's in charge of writing skin lores and lore in general. They all came from WH40k and are trying to copy marvel at the same time. I'm not sure if the Skins team has any female leads, or what exactly IAmCarlos is doing but it's not good.

Is Lonewingy still working there? Does KhateyKhaos get to do anything anymore besides PR and completely ruin the only Quinn skin we'll get for 5 years? (I adore the vast majority of her work, though.)

Zoe isn't just a bubbly cute champ. That's a facade, in reality she is an agent of chaos and a sociopath. At least the Aspect of the Trickster is and Zoes' personality has been warped enough to make her so. She calls to mind Geigeresque monsters which weren't scary because they were outwardly malicious, but because they had the potential to do cosmic levels of harm, but lacked the foresight to show restraint. Made them feel less like stereotypical villains and more like ticking timetombs that make you astounded that they haven't caused a cataclysm yet.

Zoe has potential to be the "Main Villain" of the default League Universe.

everything else I agree with, but Zoe is 100% villain material, and having her as a villain to the star guardian would've been fine if they didn't botch the skins otherwise

So, you're complaining about a skin because it isn't cute? Ok. One thing u have to look at is that not every skin will be like that and i understand when u complain about the personality thing but that's the sole reason why they picked the champs for those skins. I'll go to lux first. Lux was born in an imperial family so ofc she would have to join the army sometime coming from the story she has. Obviously they wouldn't make her wear a sexy outfit into a war. It jus doesn't make sense. That's why she had armor. The sg skins fit for each character. Xayah and Rakan are natural rebels even in their normal skins and they quote it too. And it also gives sense for them to be “corrupt" by zoe since she is a child who like to mess with reality and is secretly crazy. Ur only looking at what you WANT the skin to be without thinkinng how it fits in the story. No flame but if u don't like it then don't buy it. If it has quality issues ok, but if the theme fits the character then what's the problem. Not everything is going to be sparkly in the sg universe. U won't expect the "evil" sg`s fight to be a giant monster with pink clothes on shooting stardust. It's not about being edgy its about how the characters fit into the profile of each role.
