So, what is the deal with Shyavna's armor?

Does she actually transform into a dragon or does her armor give her that ability to do so because of her blood or something? I'm assuming its apart of her dragon form sort of like how transformers have wheels around their bodies while in robot form but i'm just curios if anyone knows the specifics about it.

Here's a splash art for a bit of easy reference.

I always assumed the armor was for complying with human views of decency.

I doubt that the armor gives her that ability,I mean where would she even get such an armor?

Since most of the armor more or less remains the same I guess that the armor is simply chosen to not be in the way when she transforms, similar to how bruce banner wears extra large boxer shorts so that he still has some clothes when he transforms into the hulk

I always assumed it was because she's literally half dragon, and nothing to do with her armor. Dragons are usually portrayed as magical and we really don't know much about them within LoL's universe, so it's totally possible that this is just something that all half-dragons can do.

I think the real question is: Who had a child with a dragon...I guess if Donkey did it on Shrek anything can happen...Human parent of Shyvana talking to dragon: Hey baby you're a real hottie, I love your scales, can I buy you a drink?Shyvana

I guess that her armor has some kind of magical enchantment...

In her original splash art, it wasn't clear if her thigh armor was coming from her herself (as scales) or just sloppily drawn on. That effect has been carried over to this newer splash art in some strange hybridization of scale and armor.

If/when they update her in-game model, we might figure out better what the case is. She may actually possess heavy draconic scales coming from her body, but why on her thighs and not the rest of her would be a mystery.

Personally, it'd be much cleaner and logical to have it be worn armor, and cleanly distinguish it from her body proper. As her dragon form carries the armor in some sort of magical transformation, there's no real need to confuse it by being 'partially grown' or what will you.

I always thought she had the power to transform orginally and the armor was there to cover her up and to tank everything thrown at her

It was posted in forum archives by a Rioter, but the armor (the gauntlets at least) were made by her, Shyvana. She has the ability to transform into a dragon as dragons in Runeterra have the ability to turn into humans, ergo her parents got busy. The armor on the dragon form is likely just a stylistic choice made with little regard for fiction continuity. It looks cool, why change it, it seems like. It does give each dragon form a unique appearance from each other rather than just a palette swap or minor unnoticeable features. It's more striking and defining of the design and amongst each skin.

I would agree with your assumption, that the armor is a part of her and correlates to the outer parts of the dragon, like scales, horns, and other kibble. based on the art, its most apparent in her thighs and face where it looks like the scales of similar color to the armor are shifting onto the skin.

As far as the armor goes I believe it is part of her. But I'll admit I'm always curious about how the claws work. Can she take them off at any time in human form? If she's not raging around a battlefield does she actually become more human?

I don't think the original devs went that far in the thinking, but it's a perplexing subject.

They also conveniently leave out her boots. Look at her in game model and try to figure out how those work.

I don't think it's actually part of her body like you described with the transformers example. Her powers come soley from her halfdragon nature. The only question though is how she manages to keep her armor in dragon form since she seems to use magic to transform.
