With so many other aspects getting updated, I'm wondering if his lore will also be updated since he was passed over in the demacia update

it is jsut a gu update, not a Vgu so no new lore

Not necessarily Champions that are receiving VGUs next year still had their lore updated with the regional updates( Mordekaiser Pantheon ) so why not update his lore considering a fair amount of his kit is being changed and his base splash is getting an update

sure, but remember not all champs will get a updated lore, galio got a complete new design so the old lore make no sence, I think the same will happen to morde maybe Panth too. And the reason that something already got updated doesn't mean thay it wion't change, WW and Evelynn got both a new Splash in 2016 both got their VGU this year ^^

Well yeah, but Eve got a short story in Yorick's update.

Xin is also getting a splash art, which is arguably more work than a short story.

sure , but Yoricks update was quite before they thought about Eve update and sure Xin get some splash updates, I like it, but you have to remeber that a the goal of a GU is that the champion gets with less work and with the same character better than before. A VGU thats to recrate the champion the name and the base concept is the same but with better ideas ( the new galio stil a statue, poppy still have a hmmer, urgot more badass) ofc they want to create a new kilt that means new spells, VFx,SFX and animations, so they also reinvent splash art and so on, but now lets be happy that he got updated :D
