Rengar vs. Kha'Zix: The Depth of this Lore Connection

Rengar and Kha'zix. One of the many lore pairs in League. However, in my eyes this is one of the best rivalries in the game due to how Riot executed these champions in theme, design, and kit.

1. Theme Kha'Zix defeasts (haha) others in order to better himself through stealing their traits. Rengar looks for foes in order to sate his hunger for a challenge. They both want to fight mano a mano. They are both focused on their goal of defeating the best of all for their own selfish reasons (pride and betterment), even though their motives are very different. This gives them a sense of similarity while also showing how greatly different the two are. Two hunters, two motivations.

Also, Alien vs. Predator. Nice, Rito.

2. Design

As with any voidborn, Kha'Zix looks very foreign. I mean, look at his splash. He has hair growing from his knees and elbows! However, Rengar looks very familiar (he's a cat with dreadlocks, he's not that complicated). Given, he's still a man lion knife-cat thing but there's no doubting that his design is much more this-worldly, not to mention he's stuffed with pop culture references. This difference in design but before-mentioned similarity in goal further supports their rivalry even futher.

3. Kit

Ohoho, this is by far my favorite part of these lore partners.

They both have:

• A basic attack modifier
• A leap that can be triggered (kill/assist and Ulting)
• Stealthing
• Long-ranged skillshot CC
• A heal
• Some sort of scaling outside of just leveling (kills and ranking up ultimate, and killing each other)
• They are also both high AD scaling assassins that do well when ahead and poorly when behind
• Their kits both punish being alone in late-game
• They both have a way of increasing the potency of their abilities

So, they pretty much share a kit, even though they are arranged differently. These two kits are probably the most similar the game has to offer (if you have any other super similar kits please do tell me) and is, in my opinion, the strongest thing that links the two characters together. You can lore this and lore that all you want, but the gameplay of the two champs is what everyone experiences and what truly speaks.
