Can we get an update on what Narrative is doing with Nami's lore?

Flashback to pre-Bard release. We get a gorgeous trailer that depicts the invasion of a mountain village and the fleeing of an old-man carrying an important looking stone. Bard swoops in and saves the stone before the invaders take it and POOFS away from the mountain's peak.

I freaked out and waited for Riot to confirm the stone being the Moonstone, but no such thing happened.

Fast-forward to the Bilgewater event, many champions get lore reworks and are reintroduced. Despite Nami being put on rotation with the rest of the Bilgewater champions, she gets no such love and is left behind along with Nautilus and Fizz.

Now we're in 2016 and are wrapping up with the Targon event, an event which included Diana... the most likely candidate to carry the MOONstone.

And nothing....

Absolutely. Nothing.

The terrible thing about Nami's lore is that she has absolutely no tie-ins with any other champion in the lore. She's by herself. This keeps her out of the running for getting lore updates during events (Bilgewater further proved this point) and it would be a dumb idea to run an event based off of a single champion. I guess I just want some justification as to why she's been largely ignored for so long...

To be fair there's a whole slew of champions who would like and desperately need lore updates vastly more than Nami, and while she's one of my absolute favourite champions that's an undeniable fact. I mean let's not forget - Singed there's Nocturne still Fiddlesticks a Kayle myriad Morgana of Jax champions without canon lore right now and if anyone needs to be included in some lore, it's them.

As it stands Nami has no clues as to where a moonstone may be located, as her knowledge of the surface world is severely lacking and the knowledge the modern Runeterra has of concepts like the moonstone is likely very scarce. As such Nami is actually one of the few champions I'd considering being a "main character" candidate, because this goal is so ambiguous at the moment that she can literally get involved in any story in League and it'll count towards the progression of her over all story.

However this is also kind of a curse because fitting in a mermaid in to a story presents its own problems unless said story is told from the perspective of Nami herself. I mean how do you stick Nami in there in a totally reasonable fashion unless you put the story in her perspective? It ends up reading oddly, kinda like how some people viewed Olaf's inclusion in to the Shadow and Fortune story; it was cool he was there, but why was he there? Lore wise he was present at the time and being a champion means you're gonna get included in the narrative, but from a writing perspective why was he included?

I feel like for Nami's story to properly take off she actually needs hers written out from start to finish, or at least many chapters in advance, or else it'll come off as odd as to why she's even there in the first place. She thankfully has that reason to be there in the moonstone, but if she's in a story just for the sake of having her and not for the benefit of her own story, then why even include her? She also needs it told mostly from her perspective or at least introduced from her perspective, so even if the narrative focus shifts to another character it's not so jarring that she's there at all.

She'll probably get her background retconned, completely changing her Lore and personality.

Y'know, like basically everything else.

Makes you wonder,do champs have to wait for an event for an updated? Would Riot ever just update a champ's lore for the sake of updating it without having to tie it to reworks or events? Would we ever wake up one day & find out Jax's lore have been updated, alone, with no tie ins to anything else?

I hope they would opt in for solo updates, but part of me doubt they would. They seem to prefer group updates, which means the independent champs might have to wait awhile.

Narrative focuses on events, champion updates, and new champions. It's unlikely Nami will get anything until she gets an update, unless they feel like it.

I actually agree with you OP. I thought the same things for the same events. I feel like she's going to end up in the next Frejlord update, but who knows when that will be.
