Lorewise, who wins a 1v1 sniper duel: Caitlyn or Jhin?

SKT T1 Jhin Vs Pulsefire Caitlyn

As Jhin heads to Piltover in preparation for the latest exhibition of his art, it became important to consider what may happen if the Virtuoso were to cross guns with the Sheriff of Piltover.

Just kidding! I'm just interested to discover who would win this fight between two of the most famous (and infamous) snipers in Runeterra. Who do you think?

Jhin has the better weapon, Cait is the better sniper.

Of the two I would put my money on Cait. Not that Jhin isn’t deadly. He is. If anything he seems smarter than Cait. However he suffers from a rather obvious weakness: he’s insane.

He has a compulsion to create his art. Sniping duels are usually drawn out affairs of patience. I think after awhile Jhin will feel the need to make his art and start shooting civilians. He’s probably smart enough that the first he kills won’t reveal himself. Maybe not the second either.

But eventually he will. And Cait will have him.

I think Jhin would win. Not because he's better at sniping, but because he's a criminal mastermind, way more capable than Caitlyn in my opinion.

That depends on the circumstances. If it's an actual dual, Jhin wins. Whisper is a unique weapon in the sense that she uses not only magic, but Jhin's own chi techniques to turn people into artwork. While Cait's rifle is exceptionally crafted, Whisper will kill you headshot or not. It doesn't mater where a bullet from Whisper hits you, it'll still twist and contort that limb beyond recognition as anything human. If you combine that and the Hextech Mass Accelerator(the thing on Jhin's shoulder), you get an extremely powerful shot that will either rip your limbs off or kill you instantly, depending on where it hits. Even without the Accelerator, Whisper can still be converted into a rifle with just Jhin's cane, which allows for a quieter execution, but it lacks the lethal kick that the Accelerator would give it.

If Caitlyn knows before hand and is able to get in position before Jhin does, or simply catches him off guard, then she would most likely win. While Cait's rifle lacks Whisper's lethal kick, it's still a weapon. It may not turn your arm into a golden tree branch with flowers blooming from your fingertips when the bullet hits you, but it'll still hurt. There is also no coming back from a direct hit to your head. While I'm not sure what the properties of Jhin's mask are, I'm pretty sure being bulletproof is not one of them.

If Jhin gets the upper hand on Caitlyn, then he definitely wins. For the reasons I stated above, there really is no surviving a shot from Whisper, especially if you're not expecting to get shot.

Jhin also has a line for Caitlyn, something along the lines of, "You shoot to kill. You'd better hit the heart." Implying that Jhin prefers to hit his targets in the heart/chest rather than their head. Unless he's feeling particularly sadistic/killing for recreational purposes instead of assassinating someone for the cabal. Then he'll just torture you. Caitlyn however(and most of the female cast to be honest) seem to enjoy flaunting their weak points, so Jhin may as well take advantage of that fact.

It could go eitherway.

Jhin has in my opinion the more dangerous weapon,as someone else already pointed out,Jhin can enchant his shots with magic, making them likely more dangerous than Caitlyns gun.

However Caitlyn is likely the more experienced sniper and is more accurate. Jhin might be a genius, but he lacks the experience and he might make a mistake thanks to his insanity, thus giving caitlyn a chance as well.

I feel like Cait wins because sniping is more or less part of her job. In a protracted duel, she wins I think because Jhin is insane and probably lacks the "eye" or patience for a true sniper duel. Plus we don't really have any idea of just how good his aim is, since it seems like he does most of his work through his blade traps.

Lorewise I would say Jhin isn't really a sniper. He is an artist, he wants everyone to see his work and who is behind that. In english version of his short story, there are no details on his "work" but for some reason, european localization have different story - in "ours", Jhin kills little boy's mother right in front of him and whole village and only uses his sniping skills to kill his father afterwards.

So I would say it would depend on Caitlyn's ability to know about Jhin long before his performance. If she would be able to find him out, she could eliminate him before he would harm anyone. If he would be the one to surprise her, he would probably win since in his stories he thinks about escapes routes and prepares them long before.

Sniper duel? In the sense of placing them 3/4 of a mile to a mile apart and telling them to kill each other? Then cait wins hands down. Jhin isn't a sniper and wouldn't have the capability of shooting such a shot.

Caitlyn, in my opinion. She's more adept with the rifle since childhood, while Jhin only recently picked up the gun during his recent 'performances,' originally he actually used a knife.

Not only that but Caitlyn technically never misses her ult, unlike Jhin :^)

How dramatic is it?

Depends on the context:

If you put them both a mile apart and say: 'shoot eachother' --> Caitlyn wins. If you put them both right in front of eachother and say: 'shoot eachother' --> Jhin wins. If they can prepare before the fight and you put them in a city --> Caitlyn wins. If they can take other civilians hostage --> Jhin wins

etc....

Caitlin is the better skilled sniper. But Jhin has a better weapon, he's also insane and has nothing to lose, thus he can play way dirtier.

IMO Caitlin wins, but it depends heavily on the context.

Necrit answered this already and it was clearly Jhin who would win. Jhin can bring Cait out in the open with hostages while Caitlyn cannot. Jhin has nothing and no one to lose, amd nothing in interest which Caitlyn could exploit.
